Hi guys,

today I decided to finish at least some of my 1001 old small protoypes - sometimes from other mod projects.
(At least that is how it feels for me because there are so many - often in very rough implementation maturity.)

Here is the first:
"Desert Irrigation".

It is actually a very very old feature I had already created for "Path to the Throne" .
(PttT heavily uses the game concept of "Terra Forming" - similar to Dune books.)

The Spice ... ähem ... I mean the "Flood Plains" must flow !!!
Have fun terraforming ... ähem ... I mean irrigating the desert.

Btw:
It only works for Deserts and really only if River is adajcent and it takes pretty long. ;)
Do not search the "Irrigate Button" on other Terrains. (I wanted to prevent this to become overpowered.)

For Gameplay:

Deserts
are allowed to get irrigated if the plot has access to a River.
Irrigation will create Flood Plains which will increase Food production.

Looks nice, and is plausible - irrigation was known back in the days... I say: yes... EDITED: Perhaps prerequisite shall be the windmill or watermill...??

Ok guys, here is the next one of my "small prototypes". :)

REF (before WOI) already gets Generals / Admirals
(For me it was alway a bit unimmersive that a professional army / navy should go into war without commanding officers.)

To fully explain:

  • Starting REF already has Generals / Admirals
  • Accordting growth of REF it gets additional once before War Of Independence starts
  • Once War Of Independence starts, it can only get them through battle XP just like player
-----

Effect on Gameplay:

The player might have acquired Generals / Admirals himself before WOI by e.g. Wars with other Europeans / Natives.
But well, he meets a fully professionalized Army / Navy of an Empire that will now bring its own Generals / Admirals.

Be prepared that those guys, will give you a tough fight. :)

-----

It is again actually a very very old idea and I had already created it for "Path to the Throne" but forgotten about it because it is such a "small change".
(Only uncovered it again by accident, because I was looking through my old concepts and saw this "tiny note".)

So ok and here is another one. :)

This one is actually meant for other modders as a "small reminder" that this is also possible.
(It has been pretty much ignored though in Civ4Col modding so far.)

So go ahead and create more of these.
(It is really simple as hell.)

More "Native Village Rewards"
(Just 2 examples created in 5 min to show you how easy it is.)

More of them will most likely follow, once I have finished other "higher priority" stuff on my todo list.
(I could create 10 more small prototypes in a row, but I should better finish other bigger projects I already started.)

Guys, please do not simply "lean back" and watch the "old guys" modding. :)
A community can only survive if it finds new modders as well.

This thread is mostly meant to show community members how easy it is to mod "small but still nice" features.
There is no need to be the "best programmer in the world" to become a modder.

Seriously:

The stuff I have shown here is absolute beginner's level.
(Most of the stuff above did not even need programming anymore.)

It is possible to create such small features in less than an hour once you understood which files you need to touch.
(Of course only if you already have the graphics you want to use.)

Well yes, in the beginning you will take longer until you understand how modding Civ4Col works.
But once you have taken the first obstacles things will get easier and easier with every small change or feature you implement.

All you need is:

Imagination and motivation.
