RBC6 - Scrappy Sumerians (C3C Demi SG)

I'll second that the Age of Science still doesn't work in the current patch. I tried it in a solo game; it changes the time listed to get the tech, but it does NOT change the number of beakers that you actually accumulate. When the counter gets down to 1 turn remaining, it refigures itself, and the time until you get the tech is the same as if you never used the SGL.

In short, Firaxis got a dose of the Lying Character Screen...

Ooops, I also missed the SGL. Arggg.

Anyway, make sure to avoid elections when UN completes next turn.

Grimjack

I got it. I believe that the tech deal at the start (where we get Communism) wasn't according to the rules. Anyway... I assume that I have to use that SGL then :)

EDIT: I missed T-Hawk's post who also had bad experiences with the SGL. I will NOT use it for a so-called Scientific Golden Age, because then I could just as well disband it...

I believe that we should have built SETI in Sumer instead of Ur. Sumer has 141 science per turn, Ur only 107. I would like to switch Ur to Manthattan (losing 147 shields - SETI will be ready in 1, just like the UN) and rush Sumer's SETI with the SGL. OTOH: the SGL might be even more useful for Internet. What should I do?

EDIT: we already have an Internet prebuild (Isin). So I will switch SETI to Ur and rush it with the SGL.

My bad for not checking which city produces the most beakers when I started the prebuilds for the wonders, sorry. I somehow assumed it would be one of our top-producing cities without looking in more detail. Good you caught that too, Aggie. :)

In a game like this where we sooo far ahead, I find it hard to concentrate myself on such details. I got bored to tears with micromanaging our cities for optimal science while still getting something done in corrupt cities, not to spear of worker labour...

Too bad the the age of science is not working. :( I never had an SGL before so didn't know that - I hope this bug is known already and will be fixed in the next official patch.

IHT: SETI is being built in our second science city, Ur. Not in Sumer. The difference would be 35 science beakers per turn... I switch Ur to Manhattan and Sumer to SETI. We lose 147 shields but in this part of the game we can afford that. Science beakers are more important than shields imvho.

Turn 1 (1555 AD) The UN, Manhattan and SETI are ready. We still need 2 turns for the next tech, Miniaturization.

Turn 2 (1560 AD) Our palace prebuild in Isin is ready in three. Science goes back to 60%. We make 536 gpt and Miniaturization is in 1.

Turn 3 (1565 AD) Miniaturization is known. Next up is Rocketry. In 5 at 100%. Isin will finish the Internet within two turns.

Turn 4 (1570 AD) I renew the luxury for peace deal with Egypt.

Turn 5 (1575 AD) Isin completes the Internet. Rocketry is still in 3.

Turn 6 (1580 AD)

Turn 7 (1585 AD) Science goes to 30%. We still can get Rocketry in 1. We make 995 gpt.

Turn 8 (1590 AD) Rocketry is there. Next is Space Flight (in 5).

Turn 9 (1595 AD)

Turn 10 (1600 AD) The AI again comes with offending offers for our techs.

PS. I didn't mean to offend anyone with my remarks about the SGL and SETI. I just found it strange and therefore I wanted to discuss about it. But there's plenty of things that I might have done better in these set of turns as well. I wonder if I really couldn't have shortened the Rocketry and Space Flight reseach for example :p

PS2. Kyrealan: you mentioned that SETI has the most effect in the city with the highest science, so how can it be your mistake, if we would call it a mistake already...? Those are heavy words in an endgame where the only question is: "how many turns before we fly to Alpha Centauri?"

1600 AD save

(0) I think we can safely assume that the Pyramids aren't going to flip. It probably won't make any difference, but I sell off the nation's granaries now. Lagash is building a palace, due in 5. That can build the Apollo, I guess. I swap Ur to bat. met for the Engine. Isin to intelligence agency prebuild. Umma, Akshak, and Agade are starving. I irrigate a tile for each city. This does lower their shield output a tad, so feel free to alternate irrigation/mine if you feel like it. I didn't feel like it, so I just left it irrigated.

I added some scientists so that I could lower science to 90% and still get space flight in 3. That way, we're only running a -21 gpt deficit.

BT - Cattaraugus police - library. Der commercial dock - stock. Asyut uni - aqueduct.

(1) 1605

BT - Zulu and Aztecs sign MA vs. Egypt. Grand River market - bank. Tonawanda police - bank. Coventry library - university. Agade offshore platform - wealth (seems like these cities that aren't too corrupt wouldn't benefit from police stations). Kahnawake offshore platform - wealth. After much deliberation :hmm: , decide not to hold UN elections. ;)

(2) 1610 - Our incense expires, and is no longer available from the AI. We lower the slider to pretend like we have income, then buy dyes for wines, siles, gems and 34 gpt (from the Zulu I think). We then turn the slider back up, space flight is due in 1. We fire as many scientists as we can without increasing it to 2 turns.

BT - Iroquois and Egypt sign peace. Space flight is in, start ecology. Pollution isn't bad, but I figure we will want synthetic fibers. Lagash to Apollo via scroll ahead.

Complete Apollo. Lagash to SS Cockpit. Gewauga police - library.

(3) 1615 - Ur to engine - due in 4. Isin to docking bay, due next turn (should have used scroll ahead for that too, oops). Hire scientist for ecology so we can get it in 4 at 100%, running a deficit of course. I figure between parts we can run wealth in the core 3 and get some cash back. I think I keep us above 1000 all turn, though.

BT - Sumer - offshore - wealth. Tippecanoe offshore - wealth. Isin docking bay - wealth. Goigouen library - university. Kawauka harbor - university.

(4) 1620 - Ur grew, and now is starving. I irrigate it, lowering its production by 4 spt. Feel free to re-mine that one too, if you want.

BT - St. Regis library - university. Zabalam harbor - bank.

(5) 1625

BT - Erech offshore - wealth. Panama East bank - harbor.

(6) 1630 - Fire some scientists.

BT - Ecology in, start synthetic fibers. Ur SS engine - bat med prebuild. Cattaraugus library - university. Lagash cockpit - intelligence agency prebuild. Gandasetaigon aqueduct - bank.

(7) 1635 - We can't get to 4-turn research for synthetic fibers, even with a painful amount of scientists (making scientists everywhere I can even sort of justify getting away with it). But, we can lower science to 80% and get the tech in 5. I re-fire all the scientists I can, and we're at 249 gpt.

(8) 1640

BT - Iroquois sail in. Caughawaga bank - temple. Gewa library - uni.

(9) 1645 - We need to renew ivory. Furs and ivory from the Aztecs for silks, gems, wines, and 55 gpt.

Now the Aztecs can afford electronics. Sell it to them for 87 gpt + 400 gold. Then we sell it to the Zulu, who can afford close to market and will probably buy it from the Aztecs at a discount. They give 69 gpt + 525.

I don't ask the Iroquois to leave, because I'm guessing they'll sail out to Kente next turn.

BT - Sure enough, the Iroquois fleet arrives in Kente. Salmanca bank - stock. Hastings market - library. Kutha harbor - library.

(10) 1650 - Synthetic fibers is due in 2. Lagash will need scroll ahead, because its prebuild is also due in 2. I also have had Ur on a prebuild, because I was thinking that storage supply was also a 640-shield part, not 160 shields. Oops. I think we should just keep going and scroll it ahead too when the tech comes in, but I suppose we could set it to wealth and just build it in 2 when the tech comes in.

Other than that, the turns required a lot of time deciding where to have scientists, and how many, but were fairly simple other than that.

To Space!

I admire your persistence in fiddling with the scientists, Griselda.

My bad on SETI, I didn't check close enough, I just assumed Ur was the best city for it.

Grimjack

IT- All looks well.

1660AD (2): Synthetic Fibers comes in and Lagash and Ur switch over to parts. Start Superconductor, due in 5. SS Storage Supply completes.

1665AD (3): Decline UN elections.

1670AD (4): SS Exterior Casing finishes.

1685AD (7): Superconductor finishes, start Satellites, due in 4. Build SS Life Supply and SS Fuel Cells.

1700AD (10): Satellites is due next turn with a ready prebuild in Ur.

Conclusion- As far as I'm concerned, Charis can just finish this one up.

Take Us to Space

[0] 1700 AD - This puppy is just about done. The world has acknowledge that NO ONE
is scrappier, or more scientific, than the Sumerians!

The only techs we need are Robotics, Laser, and Satellites (due in 1),
and Nuclear Power along the way. That means about twelve more turns.

[1] 1705 - Crank sci back to 100%, lux to zero, look around the cities and am
amazing to see a gazillion scientists. OMG!! Our nearest rival lacks STEEL
and Radio?! So you *can* pull insanely ahead by not trading again?? Wow
that's a throwback to the OLD days of civ, and this helps explain a bit what's
going on in RBC1 (boo)

[2] 1710 - The workers go on auto-clear-dmg.
[5] 1725 - We get a SGL on discovering Nuclear Power :)
It's truly meaningless with the bug, but we spark off an Age of Science :P
We're starting a new tech called... "The Laser!"
[9] 1745 - SS Planetary lounge done. 4 turns to Robotics. (I don't know if I can
slow research on 4th turn, due to false turn indicator, so must stay 100%)
[10] 1752 - The Hitties come begging for Mil Tradition. I tell them to read our
Heroic Epic and not worry about concepts over their head!
[11] 1754 - The Zulu beg for Flight. Talk to the hand Shaka!
[12] 1756 - Egypt and Zulu come to peace, so they can attend the blastoff party.
Just from scientists ALONE we can do Smart Weapons in just 24 :D
Income with slider back at zero: 3864g+1764gpt.
[13] 1758 - SS Stasis Chamber due next turn (had Battlefield Med placeholder)
That's all she wrote...

Iroquois lack Industrialization.
Egypt lack Steel, Radio (and Ironclads)
Aztecs finally got Steel, lack Combustion and Radio.
Zulu lack Flight, Mass Production and Radio. We're *ONE FULL AGE* ahead.
Special thanks to all who came to consensus to leave the AI in dust and not sell
them any more tech or lux, this was the only way to check and see if this would happen.

Time of 58:59:43, score of: 5923 Gilgamesh the Magnificent.

Ur, Sumer and Lagash were #1,3,5 cities with Zimbabwe and Hieraconpolis 2 and 4.
We had 44% area, 55% population, 60K culture, turn 345, UN was built.

Good work  Indeed amazing that the AI was only fighting and didn't care to stop us when they could! I assume that they stayed Fascist all the time? Really looks like this government type is quite strong for humans, but killing for the AI. Maybe something for Firaxis to patch...

Fun game. Even if the end game was unexciting, the early/middle game was amongst the very best Civ sessions I have ever had.

Lurker comment: good job scrappy ones.

I hear by award the team with the award of
