The old article on the subject of Ring City Placement was a little confusing, talking about distances and half-distances [ie, 7.5 away from the capital]. I created this template which shows the city ranks more simply. The cities which share numbers on this template are equidistant from the capital according to the game engine's distance measurer.

I do not know if you are still playing PTW, but in C3C (latest patches), the RCP strategy has become completely obsolete, it no longer works as it did in PtW - corruption is then applied in order of city founding when you use RCP.

So, this is basically outdated and no longer working - it is a GREAT thing for those playing PTW, but I would bet that many switched to C3C.

Yes, but your template still has to be interpreted, as the rcp distance calculation rounds the half distances down. So your numbers 1 and 2 actually both represent the same rcp distance (2 in old money), your 3 and 4 represent the real value 3, your 5 and 6 represent 4 etc. This half-tile tolerance makes it much easier to build an rcp layout to take advantage of terrain features. The real number is also important if you want to use Alexman's formulae for calculating distance corruption. So I would recommend changing this chart to use the real whole numbers, and you'll see a much more substantial pattern. Also please note that Dianthus has poduced a cool tool to display rcp rings overlaid on any map.
