Since I was about to leave work and go on vacation, I thought that I would peruse the ruleset... I found this little diddy
Emphasis added said:
2.2 - Save Manipulation

Description: No team or individual is permitted to use the PBEM save games or other files to obtain information or alter any in-game element. This includes monitoring or altering memory while the game is loaded. Using MapStat or CivAssist II or such utilities is also prohibited.

Definition: An individual scanning or monitoring loaded files into memory or altering a file can obtain location information and more, they can even alter in game data.

Purpose: To prevent the use of outside game elements to break the spirit of the game by allowing someone to outright cheat.

Verdict: Using these or any other methods that allows altering the in-game content through any means is a violation of this rule.

Punishment Level: Once - Automatic Expulsion
I use MapStat or CivAssist normally but whoever plays this needs to pay attention to this rule. Did I read it wrong??

It's because you can reveal the map or something. I don't like this rule either, since I use Mapstat all the time, but I see why they need it. :(

There are some bizarre things with a PBEM. Another is sending zoomed out saves is illegal.

Another thing is don't upload pictures to the server because it will give spoiler info. IIRC this is a free image hosting service we should use if we put a picture up.

:hmm: I don't know I've never used it. How do we post pictures?

They could see imageshack pictures if they had the link. They would have to either search for the image (not sure if that's even possible), or get the link through other means.

can you find this picture?

I know you're not talkin' to me.

I looked at the upload10 and didn't see anything there. Did you use photobucket or imageshack?

I don't think they can see forum attachments.... ?
I was wondering about this too. Why can't we just upload all pics like saves? I don't think there's any way to view them, right?

The adress is:

If you play around with the number at the end you can see quite a numbre of attachment.

We could ask someone without acess to this forum if he can see the link.

If I'm not logged in, it says "no taxi available" or the like.;)
I mean I can't access the link. Instead, I get asked to login/register.

Then, I just played with the numbers in the link while being logged in.

The following link
http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=94381
results in "no trespassing". The respective attachment is apparently in a hidden place like this subforum.

Next ones. There is some sav file I could d/l without a problem and a pic of a man in the mountains:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=94380
http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=94379

So I guess we shouldn't bother; the place seems safe.:)
Apart from that, I cannot imagine someone would even try to cheat this way.

I'd do them as attachments and then do not name them anything to obvious like
File Attachement "SOD on team 2's doorstep"

name it more like "More Spam" or "BR549"
You know what I would do. I'd start a similar game, play like schmuck (easy part), print screen and then name it "kiss_status_xxxxBC", he, he.

Placing MapStat under 2.2 "Save manipulation" is plainly incoherent. MapStat does not alter saves from what I know. It should be placed under "Allowed utilities that does nothing more than you'd do yourself if you weren't so bloody interested in finding time for doing more useful stuff than clicking on F4"

I don't like it either and we can make an issue but I think what happens is you can see the whole map with mapstat.

I like the idea of a disinformation campaign. Post a picture of a similar location in the upload server.

I think attachments are very secure and probably the best way to share files and pics.
