Reagents shortage

I play that type of map pretty exclusively and see all of the resources represented.

I'm wondering what 'resource setting' you use of the map?

Logical, Irrational, or Crazy?

I'm not sure if that just affects the positioning of the resources (wheat in jungles, cows on ice, etc.) or the number of resources too.

I always play crazy resources, which provides more resources than the other 2 options I think. With crazy, you get a proliferation of 2 or 3 resources, and there`s a far greater chance of not having any of a certain resource, even on a huge map.

These would create temporary buildings that consume one resource and provide another (like how BtS Cooperations work). There would be several of these, allowing nearly any resource in the game.

Not sure I like the idea of being able to create any resource in the game. It`s the scarcity of resources and the strategic balance this creates that makes the game interesting.

If you play map types that allow the setting "balanced" resources (the other option is "normal") setting this to "balanced will ensure that reagents are placed on the map. I think the strategic resources are placed one at a time until the space is up when you select "balanced" resources. Selecting "balanced" resources also works to make maps with Blessings of Amathon properly place strategic resources (both reagents and mithril are generally absent otherwise).

I like to play maps with Blessings of Amathon and No Settlers options enabled. That way each player gets one city to work with until they can conquer more. Blessings of Amathon is important with this setting to ensure that at least some of each resource are inside a city on the map. Since you can't go out and settle the wild regions to pick up that rare resource, it is important that someone has one that can be fought over.

How about a minor change to the tower of alteration, it seems to me to be the weakest of the four towers, but it would be sweet if it gave you reagents.

Nope, It is easy to get Reagenless map even with "balanced" settings. :(

I used to not see reagents at all until i clicked on "balanced". Now i see them all the time on maps (terra, random continents, hemispheres). Yay! It used to be so fustrating when you buy the world map and go "omg. there are no reagents at all!"
