Please tell me you got that idea from the BBC radio show, the books or the miniseries, but in any case, NOT FROM THE MOVIE.

You may rest easy. :-) Had the idea many many years before hearing the HHGG on radio, then reading the books. I didn't see the television version (didn't own a television) and have no interest in seeing the film version. It didn't sound appealing to me, and I don't visit theatres in any case.

The only good thing about the movie is the initial song with the dolphins. After that, it looks more like Galaxy Quest than HHGG. The humour level went down quite a notch with the author's death.

I agree that it wasn't really 'good', but rating it from a movie point of view it was a lot better then 99% of the major/blockbuster junk that comes out of Hollywood each year.

Not a masterpiece if you look at what the original source, or sourceS really, but as a standalone movie it was pretty enjoyable. :D

Obviously the barbs. (Which explains why there's no end to it, exept maybe for global warming.)

"What do you think of Western Civilization, Mr. Ghandi?"
"I think it would be a good idea."

The USA is striving for a Cultural, not Domination, victory.

Examples:

The McDonalds website says it has "more than 30,000 local restaurants serving nearly 50 million people in more than 119 countries each day."

Starbucks has over 6000 coffeehouses, I believe. Its site reports "more than 1500 coffeehouses in 31 markets outside North America".
Those are far from cultural assets. Those are Great Merchants bringing home the bacon. Hollywood, the NBA and Disney are America's attempts at "culture."

Cockroaches, time victory...

The insects will outlive us all.

Fear the wrath of the mutant ants as they rise from the ashes of our folly!!!

China conquest 2011 for 8745 pts... nuking every other civ with decent army :crazyeye:

Do you guys really think that US are on the verge of sending a vessel in the space to Alpha Centauri or another star system?
I've been trying to figure that one out too.

I mean, even if my country put's men on Mars, it'll be through an international effort rather than an all out unilateral thing, and it isn't like it'll be a perminent presence or anything... not yet anyway. And everything we do in space today is heavily dependent on Russia... so yeah I really don't get the space victory idea at all.

If anything, the U.S.'s score would be declining rapidly while India and China's economies grow.

Do you really think that everyone mentioning a space victory means that they think country X will do exactly what is in cIV?

Yes, but you only need 3 cities to win by culture.
Maybe the game has been modded? ;)

(yeah, I know about only 3 cities being necessary... it was a pun about hte US exporting its culture. Though actually, I guess all the Starbucks and Micky Ds out there are really just culture bombs, so I guess it would be a Domination victory attempt).

And the top 3 US cities are far from legendary (they were founded just 3-400 years ago and as we all know it takes far longer than that to get to legendary status :D ).

Depends on just how many Great Artists you can crank out, doesn't it? :D
