Really big problem and one general question

I am new to the forums even though I have been a fan of Civ. for a while.

The other day I downloaded some mods and things of that nature for the game because I have been wanting to play with different civs and improved gameplay. However, I downloaded a file called "Improved Leader and Trait Info" or something pretty close to that. When I put it in my Civ4 folder and started the game, I got these error messages:

LoadXML call failed for Civilizations/CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml
Current XML file is:Units/CIV4UnitInfos.xml

Tag: CIVILIZATION_BARBARIAN in Info class was incorrect
Current XML file is: Interface/CIV4WorldPickerInfos.xml

XML\Civilizations/COV4CivilizationInfos.xml [.\FXml.cpp:133] Error parsing XML File-
File:
Reason: Element content is invlaid according to the DTD/Schema.
Expecting: -{x-schema: CIV4CivilizationsSchema.xml}AnarchyCivics.
Line: 120, 13
Source: <Leaders>

When I actually get in the game, I can't play because all the civilizations are gone and when I try to load a saved game, the game crashes. I don't know if this file in particular did something or if I put it in wrong but the game is basically useless now. How do I fix this?

My other question is how do I create civs and world maps on my own? I've checked everywhere but can't find out how. I think I am just not looking hard enough or something.

1) to play without the mod, remove it from your CivIV folder and, maybe, reinstall the game. If you want to fix the problem and still be able to use the mod, ask in the thread dedicated to the mod (after reading through the thread, of course). If a mod doesn't have a thread dedicated to it or some obvious means of support from the developer, don't download it.

2) Do you want to create a specific pre-defined map (say, Africa) or a map script (terra, continents and wheel are map scripts)? Can't help you with the former but there is a good thread in the tutorials and guides sub forum of the creation and customisation forum created by Jubalas in which he asked the same question. I used it a lot to write my own script.

It's not a specific mod that's the problem, playing a regular game has this problem. Also, I did reinstall the game before posting and it is still screwing up.

I realized my problem is solely in my XML files and nowhere else. I was wondering if someone had a clean (unedited) XML folder I could download as I think that would remedy my problems.

Just uninstall the game (Control panel>Add or remove programs>Find the game and click the button) and install it again. Or, if you put the XML into customassets, just delete the customassets folder. You cannot do the firt one if the file is in customassets.

You propably overwrote original files and messed up the original program. just reinstall.

all mods go into the MODS folder and (usually) nowhere else.
all other folders should be write protected.
That way the original game stays unchanged (unless you really want to risk messing up stuff).
