Hi,

I'm surprised to hear that so many of you with great specs are experiencing lagging... I've a pc with the mediocre specs below, which gives acceptable results on lowest display quality and small maps. No crashes either. Movies play very stuttering however, but I guess this would greatly improve if I upgrade to a Nvidia Geforce 6600 GT? Playing with bigger maps and more civs slows down everything (keyboard and mouse response) A LOT, is my videocard the bottleneck here, or would I be very disappointed after spending $200 for a Geforce 6600 GT on this system?

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz, ~2.0GHz
Memory: 512MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 100/200
Display Memory: 32.0 MB
OS: Win2k

Anyway, I don't like the new 3D graphics. I prefer the civ3 graphics. If I want to see a realistically moving elephant I'd rather go to the zoo, especially if the penalty for all these moving nonsense seems so high... I want to have the feeling that I'm in a military command centre or something, so the graphics be better abstract. Now I'm just too aware that I'm playing a game and wasting my time...

BTW: please help improve my English: corrections are welcome!

Most of the slowness I experience is later in the game when my cpu is processing all of the computer player's turns. If this what other people are experiencing as well, it has nothing to do with your graphics card and everything to do with your cpu and memory. I'm running on an Athlon 1333 and the game looks great, but if I play on standard maps with 7 civilizations, around 1500 AD things start to slow down between turns.

Aside from that though ,the game runs great.

The game runs fine on my wife's computer - a AMD 2000+ with a Geforce 4MX 420 - but I think there are some memory leak bugs that need to be fixed.

The intro movie is choppy, but I press escape anyways. Hell, I found a patch on the web to remove the intro movie alltogether so you won't have to press escape. For the lazy people I guess :)

Civivist,

A 6600GT would be a good card for yor processor. Not a whole lot of money.
Bumping your memory to at least 1Gb would do wonders. I am a firm believer in lots of ram.

You were right! 6600GT is a good card for my system (bought it yesterday). But now my system keeps crashing and windows doesn't even boot anymore. See also http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=137822

Hope these crashes get fixed, then civ4 will run perfectly on my system.
