Rebuilding the Republic

Well, I've got a settler queued up in Grenadopolis but it won't be ready for six turns. By then we should have an idea of whether we can knock out Spite or not.

I took a look at Dancing Banana. Now that we have six luxuries it can grow to size twelve. At that size it can kick out twenty shields per turn. Assuming the war agianst the Galls goes our way we should concentrate on getting DB up to size 12. It is currently size 8 and will grow to size 9 next turn. We've got three workers coming up from the Deep South. We should seriously consider settling them in  and building either a cathedral or market there so it can get back to work on the Great Library.

i don't think we should pile workers into cities, they should be improving our tiles, or clearing jungle. we should instead try to get 1 more worker out of DB and then wait for it grow, which won't be long (or we could irrigate another tile or 2 in DB's city radius).

agree completly except about the irrigating part, we dont really need to do that right now.

i did put or in there, so we don't have to, it was just an option. just thought it would help DB grow quicker, i'm not quite sure how quickly DB grows atm.

We are already 20 turns away from researching invention. Add to that the time it'll take us to turn research back on. If we make a serious run for the Great Library again we can leave research off indefinately. If we get Dancing Banana up to 20 shields per turn then we can build the GL in twenty turns.

I know you all want improved tiles. But there are not that many tiles being worked that are unimproved. Our three western core cities are only size three. If they are to be productive then they need to grow as well as have improved tiles. We already have three workers near Provobomb rectifying the situation. In a few turns we'll have our second silks hooked up and can send those three workers back north. We already have three workers moving up from the Fort Incendiary area. We do not need nine workers improving tiles for three size three cities. We can afford to join three workers to our capital. We can also afford to let our capital work on the GL again - especially if our siege of Spite goes well.

We still have Dynopolis, Semtex, Grenadopolis, Provobomb, Shilhanopolis and vbraunopolis to generate military units, workers and settlers.

We currently have 14 cities. Grenadopolis is working on a settler. We have two outlying cities (FC and Torusopolis) producing workers. FI is also working on a worker. Once it's done it should switch over to military (barracks). Two outlying cities (the Keep and Fruitbomb) are constructing braries to expand our borders. vbraunopolis is also working on a library that will be done in three turns. After that it should switch to military (barracks). Five core cities (Provo, Shil, Carpet, Semtex and Una) are currently working on barracks. If need be any of these can be switched over to units and rushed. Dynopolis and Dancing Banana are producing vet military units.

There are currently nine unimproved (or partially unimproved) tiles being by our core cites. Two of these are being improved now and one is near Dynopolis and is not safe to send workers to alone. Our outlying cities are working 10 unimproved (or partially unimproved tiles). Of these, 5 are jungle tiles and 3 are desert tiles. Our work crews are targetting the unimproved tiles near our core cities.

We are currently paying 80gpt to support our military forces and we must increase the size of our army still more. The Greeks report there may be as many as two more Gall settlers heading our way. We will know more in a few turns (after our siege of Spite commences) but it does not appear that we will be able to begin researching again any time soon.

I think we need to make a serious run at building the Great Library, and we should not tell the Greeks about it. Dancing Banana can produce 20 shields per turn at size 12 so it would take only 20 turns at that rate to get the GL up and running. If we can pull it off and build the GL then we can keep research off while we expend all our efforts to eject the Galls.

DB is currently size 9 but will grow in 2 turns. We can get it up to size 12 in 6 more turns by using all the available flood plains. When the city reaches size 12 we would then reallocate the used tiles to cut the excess food production and max the shield production out at 20spt. If we stop building units in DB now and pre-build the wonder we'd have about 60 shields saved by the time the switch is made to 20spt leaving 14 turns to finish the GL. We'd have the wonder in 22 turns (around turn 152) just a couple turns after our original deadline for building the GL under the Gambit.

Building the Great Library would assure that we remain on par with the Greeks scientifically until we can end the war and start researching again. We can take DB off military production and still have eight cities devoting their production full time to the war effort. We might have to raise our lux rate up to 10% to keep DB content but with research off we'd still be bringing in enough gold to rush units if need be.

Our military production cities (and the shields per turn they make) would be:

Dynopolis (10)
Semtex (10)
Carpetbomb (6)
Provobomb (6)
Shilhanopolis (4)
vbraunopolis (3)
Fort Incendiary (3)
Unabomb (2)

That's 44 shields per turn total. That's close to 90 shields (three units) every two turns. As we let them grow and improve the their tiles this will increase. Only Dynopolis currently has a barracks.

well if were going for the GL gambit and i agree we shouldnt tell them about it, they never told us, we should keep the other cities focused on military/settling/workers for awhile and hold of the infrastructure, except barracks. Some cities wont need them.

only our core cities, the ones with less than 5 shields can be trebuchet pumps.
