Never been so relieved in Civ V as in my current game.

(Germany, Prince, standard continents)

I had summoned an alliance against my hatred nemesis and neighboring civ Mongolia, they (Ottomans and Polynesia) told me that they need 10 turns to build forces.

Polynesia was a big body of water away from me so I didn't put much faith in them helping the war effort..

The war was on, Mongolias forces bombarded my riflemen and pikemen situated in forts I have constructed on the border (a smart move! never build them in IV).
I made counter-attacks but with the aid of Khan Generals the thing was a stale mate.

My empire needed all the help I could get, I even located my exploring caravels to help me, when I suddenly saw a build up of troops in Orange-Yellow coats on the horizon: Polynesia's forces had arrived! A nice crisp army of six units have arrived to help the war.

I wasn't prepared of them giving me help, especially with the water between us. Such a cool surprise! Gotta say that the new 1upt combat system makes the wars much more exciting too.

Now I need to get back to the game, I've got a war to take care of ... ;)

That's awesome, and great news for your troops. If any civ can pull of an intercontinental invasion quickly, it's Polynesia.

I have noticed the AI doing much better with moving embarked units for seaborne invasions since the last patch, but once the units land they typically die to the homeland defenses. Hopefully Kamehameha can distract Genghis long enough for you to crush him. Good call on the forts too. They are really great for strengthening your frontier.

That may be good news, I'll have to see how it plays out in a game. Personally, I prefer to ally City States; they stay bought (And fairly cheaply if you complete the Patronage policy tree) and the units gifted you by Military CS are yours to keep.

I've found the same myself.

It was nice seeing Monte DoW me from the other side of the pangea, but it was even nicer to see that he didn't try to march through everyone else to get to me. He sent units in the opposite direction (over the water) and landed a few with naval support in my back area. Cool to see, but he didn't bring enough to matter and well, that was more core production area, which was producing units for the front, so I cleared it before he got to the closest city.

but it was nice to see, even though it should have been a bigger army and he could have landed in a more 'invasion' prone area.
