Hello, All!

1. i have a simple question. Is there an interest in founding multiple religions ? For example do i have an interest to research Polytheism to found Hindou while i have Bouddhism already.

1.a. if i spread religion that i've found to enemy civ which benefit will a tear from that and which benefit will tear the enemy civ during peace/war?

2. There no more defence points for units? Hum

p.s. a great game but becomes realy complex comparing to CivI :D and even comparing to CivIII

You can get lots (and I mena LOTS) of money if you found multiple religeons and spread them all around.

Your most important religion is the one you adopt as your State Religion, which can bring benefits to your cities which have that religion; spread it using Missionaries, and be careful which religious Civic you are running. Other religions do bring benefits, notably under Free Religion. And if you have founded a religion you can use a Great Prophet to build its Shrine, which brings in gold from every city (yours or your rivals') in which that religion is present.

Question 2, I regret to say, I don't understand.

No. It's no longer a case of units having stats listed like ADM 2/4/1 if that's what you're getting at. Instead, every unit has a base strength. Various units have combat bonuses when attacking or defending against another unit and the unlying terrain is also taken into account. Your units new gain EXP through fighting/barracks/civics which then are used to 'promote' them, eg. you can promote archers with a City Garrison bonus which makes them better defenders in a city. By giving units promotions you can make them specialised for certain job(s).

I was wondering if I Researched polytheism which founds Hindisum i think. And then Monothesim which founds Judasim. Do I have the choice of make Judasim the new state religion. In the civ 4 demo I had one city Hinduism and another Judasim and i don't want that

Each city can have a different religion, even if it isn't your state religion. You can also change your religion anytime. Use missionaries to spread your religion.

Ok how do I change my religion, Missionaries spreading religion to other nations, I like the sound of that

Click this button: :religion: to change it.
You need to change to Organized Religion or build monistaries to build missionaries.

One example of why you might want to found multiple religions comes from my current game. I was the founder of the Jewish religion and was trying to cultivate good relations with 2 nearby civs. However, both of them were Hindu. Fortunately neither of them founded Hindu so I sent enough missionaries to their cities to cause both of them to change their state religion to Jew.

Now at this point I made an effort to found the remaining 2 religions so that neither of my 2 new friends would found them and change their state religion away from Jew.

It's been said before: THERE ARE NO DOWNSIDES TO ANY RELIGION.

Founding religions is a Good Thing. You should DEFINATELY found at least 1. Founding 2-3 is normal for most games. Founding 5-6 is pretty cool (not yet had a game where I founded all 7. It's tough to do.) Sometimes, spending the time to research religions will put you behind in other techs, but if you have Mysticism as a starting tech, you SHOULD be able to get 4-5 religions founded in your empire no problem (buddhism and hinduism are no brainers. Judaism comes easy enough too, and you can use teh Oracle to found either Confucianism or Christianity)

There are 2 strategies based around founding multiple religions. Read some more threads to find more details on these, but here's the basics behind both strategies:

1) You found more religions to suppress them. This is for the diplomatic player. By founding religions, and controlling the missionaries, you can control which religion your neighbors have. Then you will have good relations with everybody. Less wars, better trades, etc.

2) You found more religions to get cash for spreading them. This is for the financial player. By founding more religions (and building the Shrines to go with them) and then sending missionaries all over the world, you can generate HUGES sums of cash. While this means that your neighbors will probably NOT have the same state religion, it DOES mean that you will be pulling in enough cash to keep up with upgrades/ hurry production, etc.

So unless i is merely taking time away from researching other techs, go ahead and found as many religions as you can!

I like to found religions so my one of my cities becomes a holy city for each religion. That gives me a cultural/religious benefit. I also just like to prevent my opponents from having religions to spread. When other civs share my civilization's state religion, their attitudes towards me are way better.

How does spreading religion make you money though? This is news to me. Is it a revenue or a lump sum?

I play as a spiritual leader and try to find as many of the religions as i can and spread as much religion as i can ,dump as much as i can to discover religios GPs and then go from there if i need something from another civ i just change my state religion and thier alot friendlier to me not only that but i can check out what there doing without having to expend units to do so.and the gold from having the founding city aint to bad either

Some people feel more connected to a religion if they personally found it.

However, there is absolutely no difference between conquering a religion and founding it.

In a game I think you should maybe found one religion by almost dumb luck. I wouldn't beeline to a religion, but if you got a chance to pick it up I would take it (although I wouldn't put a religion ahead of a military tech).

If you are next to me and you try to get JewHindBudhi I'll just get bronze/iron and take you over. Then all of a sudden I'll have 3 holy cities, plus having a strong experienced standing army, plus having a decent size empire for that stage...

...but of course I'll miss the beloved movie.

1) found a religion
2) use Great Prophet to build the Shrine (special building) in the Holy City for that religion (it's the one with the little star next to that religions icon under the city name)
3) Now, every city IN THE WORLD (not just your civ, but in rival civs as well) that has that religion generates 1 gold in cash for that city. That's 1 _GOLD_ not 1 _COMMERCE_, so the money goes straight to the treasury (instead of being parcelled off for % :science: or % :culture: via the sliders). This money is affected by the multiplier buildings (market, grocer, bank, and Wall Street) and can thus provide you with a NICE supplemental income. So it benefits you greatly to spread the religion of any holy city you control to AS MANY cities as possible, even in rival civs (as long as you have open borders).

Happiness in late game is something a lot of people miss...recent game as Egypt, I had holy city for Judaism, but only 2 luxury resources in my empire of 25 cities...by 1250 AD 5 religions had spread to my nation, and by 1500AD I had spread them myself to every single city (even though I didn't found them)...this assured me the ability to adopt free relgion early on, get FULL bonus from it, and not be too worried about trades going wrong later on..I could keep happiness with religion.

I believe you also get a cumlative(sp) 10% science boost for each monastary you build for each different religion. This I think can out-weigh the 10%(15% I cant remember) science bonus to all cities that you get from the free religion civic.

The science bonus from the Free Religion civic is actually cumulative with the bonuses from all those monastaries, and should not preclude the building of more monastaries.
Of course once you reach the late game the discovery of Scientific Method will typically have obsoleted the monastaries anyway but you still get the civic bonus.

Oh so If I went to hinduism then researched Judasim I could change it so all my cities followed Judasim. I think lol

Founding multiple religions is needed when attempting for Cultural Victory. I'm not saying about culture, but about process setting your rivals one against the another. If there is lot of arguing beetwen them they're less willing to trade technologies and the whole process of geting close to build Apha Centauri is much slowed and you have more time to collect culture. In my previous (China) game I regreted that I had found one religion only.

Example: there are three nations: you, Rome and Japan. Send buddist missionaries to Rome and hindu missionaries to Japan. Is not it simple?
