Depends how much each is integrated into your life and your wellbeing.
If the entire economy of a nation or a region (e.g. pre-1860's Southern US) is based on slavery, switching to emancipation is going to be a dramatic shift that paralyzes the country (e.g. the Civil War). Meanwhile, switching from Catholicism to Protestantism for England was a (relatively) painless transition, compared to its switch to Democracy, for instance.
