Is it possible to mod Civ 4 Warlords in such a way (or has it already been done) so the XML can be effectively modified for maps bigger than the apparent default maximums in place? Also, is there a maximum number of cities and if so, can it be overridden?

I have a fairly new computer which I think could support larger maps.

Well can your computer run a huge map with 18 civs fine without slowdowns? If it can then you should have no problem supporting those size maps. There is no limit to the number of cities. For actually editing that, go to assets/xml/game info. From there choose the worldinfo.xml and open it up in notepad, then find the entry for huge size maps and find the width and height default tags and from there change the numbers to your hearts content. Though I don't know what the limit for how large a map can be.

Nico:

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately simply modding the XML doesn't seem to work, at least beyond a certain point. For the heck of it I tried entering 128 for gridwidth and gridheight, the result was an egg-shaped world a bit larger than default but not much. I was able to run 18 civs on the map I got without system difficulty.

Entering numbers larger than 128 doesn't seem to yield larger maps - is there something else that needs to be modified?

And oh yeah, XML editing doesn't allow more than 18 civs. Is it possible to put more than 18 civs in the game?

Don't you need Dale's 32 civ mod? AlCosta, I don't think the civ-limit is gone at least I don't think. With the map problem, I have serious issues with maps, man would like to beat the crap out of the wbs. Anyways, with the size thing I'm not totally sure what else you need to do, I'm very sure there are a bunch of other factors that I just can't think of.

No, the civ-limit is gone. Trust me on that. ;) Using the SDK, you can put any number of civs you want in there.

I have found what appears to be the entry for max # civs in the SDK, removed the read-only tag from the file, changed the entry and saved the file.

Now, since I don't have a computer science backgound I must ask a stupid question: How do you compile the new code?

Is there not interface problems if you go over 24 civs
