[Request] Inuit LH

Hmm... unfortunately there aren't a lot of Inuit leaders to choose from.

There is a Leaderheads Requests thread. ;) Who in particular would you like?

I didn't realize that. Sorry!

That's a good question. I was thinking maybe just a generic Leaderhead and working out the details later, as silly as that sounds. Maybe Sitting Bull without the headdress and more fur

Ahhh I thought CivGold added the Inuits as a playable civ? (Maybe thats coming in 5.0) But my first port of call would be CivGold to check hat out, maybe they will save you some work!

I think that it did, but I think I want to go my own route, as selfish as that may be ;)

I did find reference to ONE Inuit leader somewhere, but there isn't a whole lot of documentation about any of them by any of the colonial explorers. In regards to the Inuit "chiefs":

http://www.civilization.ca/aborig/inuvial/leadere.html

Their powers were sometimes considerable. The missionary Whittaker described a "strange Eskimo" moving into Kittigazuit who had to make a payment to the "chief" in order to be able to hunt. Similarly, it was reported that umialit had the power to boycott trade with whaling ships, and to demand a payment of whaling captains who wished to hire "their" people. Mangilaluk, who lived at Tuktoyaktuk and died in 1940, is generally considered to be the last true umialiq in Inuvialuit tradition.

Although I was hoping to find something earlier than that...

EDIT:

Here is another reference to an Inuit by name:

Indeed, the traditional stories, rituals and taboos of the Inuit are so tied into the fearful and precautionary culture required by their harsh environment that it raises the question as to whether they qualify as beliefs at all, much less religion. Knud Rasmussen asked his guide and friend Aua, an angakkuq (shaman), about Inuit religious beliefs among the Iglulingmiut (people of Igloolik) and was told: "We don't believe. We fear."

He would've lived somewhere around the beginning of the 20th century.

Civ Gold already has the Inuit under "Upaajut." "Upaajut" is Inuit for "let's dump in all these northern tribes no one cares about along with the Inuit".

Actually, they really did so they could find a legitimate leader (Marten Jumping, I don't remember what tribe she was).

How is CivGold structured? Are the files easy to get to? I don't want to have to install the whole thing to get the one civ and play it, you know?

I don't think Thanadelthur (Marten Jumping) is Inuit... she doesn't even look Inuit. I really want somebody in a parka!
