If I get an absolutely horrible start is there a way to regenerate a map without having to go through the setup procedure again. So I can keep the same Civ,speed, map etc.
Thanks
Faron

It's hardly in the spirit of the game, do your CPU oppontents get to re-roll? There's a lot of satisfaction to be had winning from an ugly start.

Should we have a re-roll on combat as well? :crazyeye:

nope, allthough you can just click start game in the menu. you wont have to go through the setup but skipping loading time and the story about the chosen civ isnt possible.

Of course, but at least give us the choice :)

Ironically that is a possibility ((quick)save<>(quick)load)

Are you sure?
I need to re-set the settings everytime I want to 're-roll'

+1 wish they had a "reroll" or "remap" option.

Provided it counts the game as a loss, I wouldn't oppose it. What they need to do is get rid of the way old save games hang around. It's surely tempted many young gamers down the dark path of save game cheating.

All that would accomplish is encourage people to not use the re-roll feature to avoid having losses. It's a pointless rule and negates the purpose of having the re-roll feature to begin with.

I disagree with the first part and partly agree with the second. Fair win/loss accounting is not pointless. It puts everyone on the same footing as the honest. If the intention of the feature is an unearned win-loss record and stolen trophies, then you have the purpose of my proposal right. Of course I have nothing against a "quit and restart" button.

Many expert players re-roll for ideal starts. It's fairly common practice. Corollary to that, some people also only setup certian maps for certain difficulty settings to negate AI advantages.

Reroll is totally legitimate and there should be a large reroll button right on the UI during turn 1.

I like to go with what I get, in a misbegotten attempt to add more variety.

@anandus i didnt check, hadnt time to play today, but i think that in main menu you can easily click your way and play with previous settings. Have to check to be sure.
But nevertheless rerolling would be a nice option ( i never take a fish-as-food start )

If I'm playing at Prince or below, I take what I get on the first start. Above Prince, I have no problem with rerolling. I have had some success with adjusting the settings in the config.ini file to get the advanced start to the map size, type, and speed I want, which saves at least some hassle. It may be possible to make a AutoHotKey macro to generate a specific advanced start, but it would be a LOT of work to set up.

A couple of points. I would like to see a restart option without going through all the set up click fest - it would help especially if your trying out different strategies and not intending to finish the game (or even play it pass the first 100 turns to test a strategy).

As far as won lost records, I very rarely FINISH a game. You get to the point where you are so dominate its just not worth finishing and its boring (or your so dead, it not worth finishing as the case maybe).

And if its single player, anyone worth his salt can rig the game to slant the stats his way anyway. Pick the map and civs against you and go to town. You can run up your win record to whatever you want. So if you want to go to the that much trouble to "cheat", have at it.

Single player should be whatever the player enjoys and anything that makes it less work or less tedious is good. Setting up the game and getting it going is work and doesn't add anything to the game - so I vote for a reroll button or save option to avoid all that stuff.

I kind of like not have a map regeneration option. It would be too much of a temptation! Instead, I'm far more likely to just live with the map that I've rolled, rather than going for another until I get something that I really like.

Maps, like nights out, are often at their best when they're unplanned and start out far from where you end up!

In similar spirit, it also bother me that the game does not remember the advanced setup.

Amen!

The only setting I click in advanced is Quick combat. Quick combat is such a time saver that I can't imagine playing without it anymore. I wish this would stay, as I hate to find out I forgot once more to click it and need to restart a game a couple of turns in (happens way too often).

If you set up your game in the advanced setup, then hit 'back' and start your game from the "simple" menu the game will remember your settings if you reroll from a bad start.
