At what point in a emperor or diety game should you call it quits on doing your own research and move completly to bringing in the money? I normally keep my science level at 10 or 20 percent, but im starting to question if it would just be better to go ahead and start collecting the extra money so i can buy more latter on.

I have not myself tried it out, but i have heard a lot of people saying that they only research 2-3 techs and then stops...

I rarely drop it all the way to zero, I usually leave it a 10%. If you only research it one or two turns it will much cheaper to buy from the AI compared to buying it with zero research done. The AI does take in to account how much research you have done when the set their price.

Hmm, thats is really interesting. I would have never imagined that that would play a factor on the bargining table. It would explain why they where really sticking it to me with tech prices lately though! Thanks for the tip!

I go straight for Literature, get the Great Library, then stop researching completely. Let them research for you, and for free to boot.

You can also do the one scientist trick. Dont set your research rate to 10-20% so that you get the tech in the maximum 40 turn cycle. You can set your slider all the way down to zero then find a city and turn one of the workers into a scientist. This will also allow you to research in 40 turns. If you are going for anything quicker than 40 turns, dont use this method you need to use the slider.
