Resetting art by era?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone here could help me out with a problem: I've recently been editing a map, but I don't use the map maker often, and in the process of placing improvements and experimenting with map-revealing techniques, I gave myself the Satellites tech for a moment, while at starting-level tech (stone age). This caused all of my improvements to upgrade their art style from 'Early' to 'Late', from thatched huts to small skyscrapers. Unfortunately, once I removed my knowledge of the free tech, the art style did not revert. Experimenting again, I tried adding and subtracting the tech from a few computer players, all with the same results. Changing the cultural control of the area to a civilization I did not alter resulted in 'Early' art, but reverting control to the original civ reverted the art as well. Reloading or resetting the game yielded no results; the game simply begins with the improvements in their places, fully art-upgraded.

What I'm hoping for is some marker in a save game file that indicates, "Player X has advanced to 'Late'-era art style," that I can simply set to some static number in order to reset the art style. Though my knowledge of game editing and XML files is quite limited, I am willing to learn what I must to do what I can in order to solve this problem, and any advice that anyone can offer would be highly appreciated. Thanks for your attention.

I don't know about editing saved games, but if you've saved it as a map you can always go find the map in the folder it's saved to and open in a text editor. Between the BeginPlayer tags there is a StartingEra=ERA_MODERN option that probably controls this. Just change it back to StartingEra=ERA_ANCIENT and you should be good to go.

Interesting! That sounds close to what I was looking for. Thank you, very much. I'll try it out and check in with a report.

It worked! It worked almost perfectly. The only loss (between working with the save game, and starting a new game with the edited tag) was cultural borders, which are easy to replace, and it reverted every single improvement on the board to ancient era.

Thank you very much, Barbarian King. You've single-handedly solved my problem. Thank you. :)
