The Iroquois Palisades made a big difference in warfare, up to 4 layers thick, up to 30 feet high, with watchtowers, platforms and bastions. They lasted until mobile cannons. If the building were called Ohson'ta you would not doubt that it was unique enough.

OK, you have a point there, although Longhouses are at least associated with the Iroquois. If the Palisades were really that impressive, I'll have to reconsider. Still, what's done is done. I can guarantee I can find a million dumber things in Civ games than this.

Edit: Actually on listening again he does refer to himself as "Imperator and Pontifex Maximus" which probably catches the right note as he uses the military title, and then also the religous one meaning he's pretty much everything.

My Latin is very rusty too, but I think they got it right. He calmly informing you that he is basically everything that matters.

To another native speaker's ear, she's okay. Sounds somewhat lifeless, but it could have been so much worse. No accent, if nothing else. I dreaded to hear some kind of horrible moose-and-squirrel-kossack-samovar-vodka "russian", the version actors use in american movies. Heh.

It's much easier to find a native Russian speaker nowadays. I imagine it was a bit harder during the 80's action movies... but wait... hell they're still doing it. Completely ruins those big Hollywood movies that attempt to be serious if it involves speaking Russian, and instead causes hysterical laughter...

I'm yet to see a movie where I could make sense from the 2-5 words the hero supposedly says in Russian...

The sound actress of Wu seems to be a northern china gal doing chinese as her 2nd or 3rd language. she sounded stiff... chinese should be more flowing, and musical...

I'm Arab, i can understand the first half of what he says but not the last part. not surprising though because Aramaic is a semitic ancestral language to Arabic.

It sounds to me like he says "Ashalom aleik". The sheen is a pretty big indicator that it's not Arabic. I don't speek Aramaic, but it sounds the way I'd imagine it would.

That being said, I hope he says Shahenshah. I'll settle for the Aramaic version of "King of Kings" if it was actually used (but the "of Kings" better appear ).

I think he says "Maleik malekai", which I assume is Aramaic for "King of Kings." The Arabaic equivalent would be "Malak Mulaka'"

One bummer, for me at least, is that Ramsees is still speaking Arabic. Sure, it sounds like it's probably the Egyptian dialect, but still, I'd have preferred Coptic if nothing else.

Maleik malekai is great to hear.

There are about 500 Coptic speakers in the world. I wanted him to speak it too, but I realized that I can only ask of Firaxis what is reasonable considering their resources. This concerns me for Babylon, though. Iraqi Arabic strikes me as even less appropriate, plus it leads to more Arabic-speaking leaders in the game than English speaking ones (and the English speakers actually spoke English!).

Why would a girl born and bred in Northern China be doing Chinese as a second or third language? To me it sounds more like an American born Chinese speaking.

As for musical sounding spoken Chinese, that's really only spoken by the Northern Chinese e.g. people from Beijing, Tianjing, etc. The rest of us Chinese don't speak so 'musically'.

Overall very good, but some speakers sound too much like voice studio, no background effects... there should be birds and bee's noise in the background! ;D

Agree that she sounds fine. The intonation and all is okay. It's just the accent that's slightly off, which imo is just plain nitpicking anyway
