Restart at new difficulty level?

I'm wondering if there is a way to replay the same map at a different difficulty level? Can I reload the 4000BC save and change the difficulty - say to something easier if the AI spanked me - or to move to a higher difficulty to see how the game dynamics change.

Load your 4000 BC save into the world builder and save it as a scenario, maybe?

I haven't used it, but the SaveConvert 4.2 utility supposedly allows you to (among other things) change the difficulty level of a saved game.
