Having combatants in enemy territory while declaring war is obviously a bit low :nono:, but what about stacking units outside AI cities and then having war declared on you?

I have done this last game against the Greeks, knowing that they will rop rape to balance their budget next turn. :) It worked wonders, but i cannot verify whether or not i received a rep hit because I was MPP'd into a war before that and my reputation is already moot. :undecide:

Has anybody else tried this?

ROP or not, you declare the war or not, if you have units in the AI territory when war is declared, it's a rape, and it hurts your reputation.

If you do not want a rep hit, always declare war first then send in the troops later. :)

I agree, but does anyone now if the Ai will get a rep hit, or if they even have a rep

It's my observation that the AI has double standards towards human players and AI civs, however, I don't have anything to prove it, and I can't detail this issue with numbers and objective tests.

This rep issue has been discussed numerous time here, and it's commonly believed that, AI civs also get rep hits for what they do wrong/evil, but the AI holds a lower tolerance level against human players. When you deal with with an AI civ with a tarnished rep, your foreign advisor may tell you things like "Xerses is a liar and cheat, be careful...". Then it's your own call. :)

That sounds a bit wierd. So if you're using the RoP you've had for years, and they suddenly decide to declare war on you, you take a rep hit? After all, they were the ones declaring war...

@ cromagnon: Whoops, you're right, I didn't make it clear enough. The case you mentioned is an AI ROP rape, but without an ROP, you get a rep hit with units in AI territory when war is declared. :)

Ah, I see. If I have units in AI territory (no RoP) and they ask me to leave and I say "OK, we'll get out eventually," but they declare war on me for some other reason (let's say pulled in by a MA), then I get a rep hit. Makes some sense.

my observations:

given that you have military units outside enemy cities and inside their cultural borders:

1. When war is declared against you, you will not get an immediate ROP-treaty denial against other civs if you ally with them against your opponent.

2. War-weariness sets in earlier if the units you have inside enemy territory (during peace-time + ROP) has been there for quite a long time.

3. When you make peace with the opposing civ, all the other civs you have been allied with (after the treaty fully expires) will finally see the ROP-rape, though

4. in some instances, they will not see the reputation hit if the opposing civ was the aggressor and other civs will still allow ROP-treaties. Their mood though, will drop to annoyed or cautious.

5. If you are the aggressor, then it's an automatic rep-hit and ROP-rape. Getting other ROP-treaties may now be impossible.

its not impossible, ive got a RoP after major RopRape. i jus ad to use half my tresury to get i. but then i Rop Raped him (i didnt care, i was winning and diplo victroy turned off). but then it was impossible. so they miht accept if they like you and you pay them enough.
