Well if this is already a mod action then just disregard this message:

I think that mods should be able to revoke privilges if people break rules. Such as:

No custom avatar - too many warnings/bans
Two posts = one post count - spamming w/ many warnings
Three posts in three minutes = -1 post count - spamming w/ warnings and bans

These could be used in the case that people are spamming too much, breaking rules too often, and not even heeding to light punishment bans.

Of course, I know this is a lot of added work - maybe this isn't such a good idea...

If this was happening wouldn't this person by now have a perm. ban, also has this happened, Just wonderin but the idea i think is okay maybe talked about a little more might make it better, but it all depends on what TF envisions of this site:)

Not bad ideas- just a lot of work to implement. :ack: And we have post count reductions for spamming, by percentage, usually. (10% of your post count, 20% 30% etc.)

I am counting on vB 3.0 to implement all these ideas. A feature I really want is if a poster posted two posts in a row in the same thread, then only one of the posts is counted.

While I can TOTALLY UNDERSTAND any action taken that can reduce spam... Aren't there many times where two posts in a row in the same thread are legitimate?... Such as in the Democracy games when ministers are posting stuff... or in PBEM games where a follow up is appropriate... Or when answering a technical question and you come up with an alternative different than the first answer... and on, and on...

Spam is indeed in the eyes of the beholder, which in this case is mods and admin... PCR's are more than adequate for dealing with those that are spamming. Spamming is more about INTENT than anything else. Automatic systems aren't really adequate for determing intent.

hehe.. the Civ3 Demogame *IS* 70% spam. ;) (according to some...) That's a rare exception, though. It actually falls into that category, and is still on topic. (i.e., polls - haven't ventured into the Demogame RPG too much...).

the 3 post 3 minutes thing

well i normally post with loads of windows and its quickeer this will slow everything down

If they are sensible posts then the poster shouldn't be concerned that they will not get a single extra post on their post count. If they're spamming then they're going to be annoyed. I am not going to suggest that people do double posts on purpose as that would be churlish but even so, they shouldn't mind. Most people delete one of the posts anyway.
Basically this will irritate the spammers and be of no concern to the other posters. And what could be wrong with that? :)

I have verbaly prohibitted a particular poster from making contentless or appluase posts in the humor forum. He is only allowed to post jokes or other topical humor now, not empty responses.

Of course, there's always the usual moderator ban function. :)

And what a great function it is! :goodjob: Now if only we could get Gonzo to use it once in a while. It's like, why have a horn in your steering column if you never use it? :sheep: :p

PC reduction is kinda pointless I htink although we all know I would like to see it implemented board wide. :D If PC was turned off for a day, I don't mean visually, I mean the tallying and totaling of posts, so any posts made would not count towards PC, I wager not many would notice. My PC is atrociously high but I can't say what hundreds it is in. Newer posters might catch the fact that PC was not working, but then maybe not...

TF said that if the posts are in the same thread then only the first counts....he didn't say in the same forum - Big difference there.

I applaud the decision!

I'm in total agreement, (well not by that spam is in my eye) that spam cannot be determined by the computer.

I think an interesting thing we could try is a ban from a specific forum for small infractions.

There's no room for spam in that eye, it's full of perfection. :groan:

Ha, PH, I think that could work! The maximum number of posts anyone could ever have is like 12! :goodjob: I like it! First post per forum goes towards PC and that's it. Hehehe... :mischief:

Are you accusing us of beholding spam??!??!!?!

Watch your back or it'll be honk honk for floppa....... :D

I say the ideas in this thread are good...but it's more work for the mods which is a BAD thing :D

Don't worry. I'm sure he meant you behold it very well.

:D

 Some people post fast! I do it all the time! And I'm not a spammer.

Yeah, like a certain mod with a T3 line! ;)
