RFC: BtS Bug Reports

When playing as Rome for UHV on monarch, I built the last aqueduct on the last turn needed for the UHV, however I still get a fail. I would appreciate it if you could look at the save and tell me what's wrong (note that Roma, Nova Carthago, Burdigala, Lugdunum, and Medialonium all have Barracks, Aqueduct, and Amphitheatre.)

You are about 20 turns too late. The buildings UHV goal is required by Turn 154 now (200AD). See attached screenshot with the civilopedia UHV reference for the Roman civ.

Really? Then how come I only get the "NO" thing this turn? :S I can only see "build 5 amphitheatres, barracks, and aqueducts by 2..." on the victory screen, maybe someone can change it to something more reasonable? (show the full requirement and deadline)

Check the Civilopedia (F12). Go to Civilizations, and mouseover or click on the Roman Empire. I know its a little frustrating, but that's how I make sure, short of writing it down.

I recall that some UHVs never used to show that you had failed the date requirement until you completed the action part. For example, some civs must be the first to enter the Industrial Age - but you never got to see on the Victory screen if you had failed (i.e. someone else beat you to the Industrial Age) until you yourself had entered the Industrial Age.

Perhaps the Roman UHV condition is acting in a similar way here.

Many of the UHV conditions are too long to display on the Victory screen. But the full information is always available in the Civilopedia, as Vidrago also mentioned.

my fault here. I forgot to change the date in that piece of code.

Is the deadline affordable anyway?

Very much so. Rome is easier now, since the territory goal can now be completed once you have got the others out of the way, so you don't have to do both at once.

The Great Wall is more expensive, but still the way to go. I think the best bet is to Oracle construction - which means smacking down on other Civs so they don't get it. But you are pretty well much forced to smack them down anyway, if purely to get the cash to finance your deficit spending. Very prototypical :-)

Cheers, Luke

I would like to mention, I've been trying about 10 times to win as Rome in pre-1.x83 patches, but I just won as Rome in 1 day in 1.x83...very gratifying... :goodjob:

EDIT: oh, I guess it would have a bunch to do with the fact that Greece founded Pelosia (or something like that) on the Italic peninsula, and declared war when it flipped, so I had 4 extra Praets and an extra city... but that is the first time I've seen it, and from what I've read, many other people are experiencing it for the first time as well)

Rome was hardly impossible on pre-1.183 patches of RFC though, especially on Viceroy. What strategies were you trying that you failed 10 times?

Did anyone achieve the 8% condition as Persia in the last patch ? I got to 8.03 exactly at turn 150 but the condition failed >_<

sorry, I thought it regarded Rome only.

I'm no blizzrd, or AP, or anything like that...take a look at my sig, and you will see I've only beaten the game for half the civs on Viceroy (and all of those pre-1.183 patch except Rome.)

As for specific strategies, I almost never follow a set pattern to base my play off of, and I realize that some civs will be very hard to win with unless you at least somewhat follow a proven strategy. However, for the most part, researching techs never really became a problem in the pre-1.183 patches. So, probably 5/10 times I would be able to build the required buildings in time, but usually it was the historical empire goal that was lost, as I am not really a huge empire-builder, and usually wait too long to either conquer or settle new cities. However, I DID get the two 450AD goals twice, but then patched up to the newest release before I finished up to 1400AD on both occasions.

This is from the German game I'm doing right now:

The Dutch moved these units here over twenty turns ago, through both my and the Viking lands. They still have an OB with both of us, but all they do is walk around the same four or five squares, both within and outside my territory.

The first screenie didn't save, but when I met the Aztecs, my caravel was next to the Jaguar. I suddenly gained units for Aztec and Mayan conquering. Isn't this a little outside of the spawn area, so no units should have shown up?

Just in case they're needed:

@Vidrago

founding a city there is viewed as an aggressive move by the AI (because it will "steal" territory and increase the sparkling borders penalty). So, since the Dutch AI is generally pacific, I take it that they don't want to spoil relationships with their neighbors.

I've had plague in 2 of my cities (one with 5 trees around it, 1 deer and 1 fish) for about 20 turns. I've whipped it down to size 3 and 5 respectively. Every worker who approaches those cities die. Is this a bug?

Onedreamer:

I do understand why they may not want to "annoy the neighbors", as it were, but those units represent three quarters of their army. They have two units in Groningen (the third in the screenshot was a trireme) and one in Amsterdam. The longbowman outside their cities is protecting a worker.
