Easy solution for you then.
The laptop I bought half a year ago costed about 400 euros so I hope it will be enough to handle the new map. I'm going to save the old version of the game somewhere before I update, so I'll give it a look later today. During the weekend that laptop is the only device I have to play video games so I have to store the old version somewhere just in case. The pc I have from monday till friday is much more powerful so I presume the map won't be a problem then.

It turns out it's not managable for my laptop. It takes about 13 minutes to load a Satavahana start. Tomorrow I'm going to try to load a start on my pc to see what difference it makes, also compared to the Byzantine start on the old map in 11 minutes. I'll stick to version 588 in the meanwhile.

True, that takes a significant amount of time, so I presume it's going to be a lot faster in the future. The turns in between took about 2 to 3 seconds each which is very reasonable I think. Later starts would take about 5 seconds per turn I guess, still managable. But for now I'll stick to the old version if you don't mind, there were still a few civs on the list.
It also needs to be said that the pc really makes a difference to the laptop, a Byzantine start is about 2.5 to 3 times faster. I think the larger map is quite playable on the pc once the spawn lag is gone.

Weird ; i've deleted my RFC Classical World + svn folder (it was corrupt) and reinstall it (the 21/12/12 non svn, then svn inside). But now, the map is upside down... as Bactria, I start near Egypt ! Actually, the Sinai is "bactria" in the stability map, and bactria region is Siberia, and so on.

@ Cetrix: sorry I should have put a note on the first post. the svn and non-svn are 2 different mods right now. the regular download is the mall map and the svn is the large map.
I have tweaked the settler map values and civs are founding cities now.
since Antioch and Edessa were both founded so soon after the start of the mod I think the Antigonids and Seleucids should both start with a settler, maybe Ptolemys too
and I may add the city of Arbela at the start. Assyria shouldn't be empty.

@Srpt : it's ok now (delete files and re-dl the svn) but... it crashes at autoturn 33

Everytime.solved the problem causing the delay when spawning a new civ so loading times are better, loaded the Bactrians in 4 minutes. it does take a long time to first load the map though.

Good call with the 80 BC map. I would forget everything except 320 BC until the mod is ready for a 1.0. Us alpha, svn-version playtesters can deal with some wait times . Besides, one of the main reasons to load up a later civ is precisely to see how the game has been going since 320 BC!
Edit: For some strange reason, the Olives near Roma do not appear visible. All the other olives are visible, and olives placed in WB on all the tiles around that tile are visible, just not on that one specific tile...very odd.
Also the settler in Alexandria is Antigonid, not Ptolemaic

Thanks for updating. I'll load a later start on the pc later today (when I'm going to the supermarket, takes about 15 to 20 minutes).

Kushan start in 11 minutes on the pc. Definitely doable I'd say. However, when I spawned on Samarkand the city was autorazed, perhaps due to the code for autorazing (1 pop and no culture). Particulary strange is that the city appears to exist when I enter the world builder. The AI is doing an ordinary job except for the Seleucids who are in control of entire Anatolia and Egypt. The Han control China except the Qin capital who are still alive, Rome has Greece and Italy and Carthage is dead.
Also, check the Seleucid megalopolis. That's quite a powerhouse!

Yeah in my bactrian game (much hard to reach the 1st UVH than before with the older map, but doable, by the way) it was the same ; Seleucids had all Anatolia (except Pontus) and Egypt. As usual, Parthans didn't crush them...
I wonder is if would be better to make some IA at peace (at least at spawn) with far away independant cities, because when they are at peace with other civs, they send a lot of troops to conquer them - it's a waste of time.

in my bactrian game the Partians easily conquered the Seleucids

I tried to load a Byzantine game but the autoplay doesn't go past 224AD, though the program didn't crash.
