Rhye's of Civilization - the fastest loading mod Expanded - PART II

I'm seeing something strange, which may be intended but doesn't seem to be in the 'pedia. It does not seem to be possible to airlift Trench Infantry. Is this a feature? Is there a list somewhere of units which can't be airlifted?

Rhye,

I sent in my entry last night. Was it received?

if it's true, it is by mistake

After playing this excellent mod nearly non-stop for this last month (there went my summer!), I came up with the following rough list of difficulty for the various tribes, judging from playing them on Emperor. The ones with * are tribes I’ve not played myself; I’m just surmising from the terrain and the success the AI has had with them.

My apologies if a list like this has come up before; I didn’t read through all of the two massive threads.

VERY EASY
England (excellent starting location, terrain/resource-wise; safe early expansion)
Mongolia (awesome UUs make them very powerful very early)

FAIRLY EASY
Rome
China
Japan
Persia
*Russia
*Germany
*France
*Ottoman
*Arabia

MIDDLE-OF-THE-ROAD
Portugal
Scandinavia
Greece
*Netherlands
*Korea
*Byzantine
*Spain
*Austria
*India

CHALLENGING
Egypt
America
Israel
Babylon
*Carthage
*Aztecs

DIFFICULT
Inca
Maya
Ethiopia
Iroquois
*Zululand

My most satisfying game came from a self-imposed single-city game, with a cultural victory on Emperor with the Hebrews. The one-city-only challenge is much more tenable on Rhye’s of Civilization because of the high cost of settlers; while the AI was building its first settlers, I was able to build a couple of early wonders and trade techs for enough cash to buy off my warlike neighbors. It was a great game, lotsa fun.

hi werttrew,
thanks for the list.

there have been lots of discussion about the strength of the civs, in particular about America. While it is hard for a beginner, it has a lot of potential and there were people that wanted to rank them with 5/5.

That, and Mongolia are the only big differences with our old discussions.

You probably haven't seen it, but actually, we have a partial strategy guide:
http://rhyesciv.uw.hu/strategy.html

which contains also civ-specific guides and strengths.

Unfortunately, it is incomplete.
More than half of the civs haven't the text, and we discussed a change to the rating system to divide in ease for the beginner/potential strength/AI strength, or to divide in combination of traits/UUs/starting location.

If you want to carry on the incomplete work, you're welcome and I'll assist you.

Well I think I'm going to have to stop my China game. Very fun, I took out India in about 6 turns, then persia in 4-5 turns (they were one of the advanced nations), and greece in 3 turns (a couple of island cities not finished off quite yet).

However, I think I need to stop playing, because it takes >1 minute just to capture a city (from where it says Raze/Capture to number of resistors). :-( I finished two books reading betweer turns...

But think about how long it would take in a comparable, 31-civ game... did you see the cool graph? It's on page 1. :)

BTW Rhye, I noticed that Cruisers do not ignore move cost of sea tiles, but do ignore move cost of ocean tiles. Destroyer ignore both, and neither ignore coast of course. I haven't changed this in my file for three reasons: 1) I wasn't sure of your intentions about this, 2) it actually makes for some fun navigating and added strategy about the destroyer/cruiser difference, and 3) I keep forgetting about it. :p Did you mean for it to be like that?

Thanks again! Can't wait for the scores to be posted, even though I know I did bad... :crazyeye:

I get this probelm.

Art\units\American Rifleman\..\...\...\Conquest\WW 2 in the pacific\units\American Rifleman. I have Conquest v.122 and i decided to get rid of some mods that i never play and WW 2 in the pacific was one of them is there any way of getting the files i need for Rhye's? With out haveing to reload the game?

I have a large favour to ask regarding RGC3. I didn't get back from my 2 and a half week holiday until July 24th (Cut off for bonus). What I'm wondering is if you could possibly make an exception with the penalty date (July 31st it is I think) and give me say an extra week before I get penalised for lateness? I'm not worried about the July 24th submittal bonus, I'm quite happy to go without there :)

How can you go into holiday while you have to finish an rgc? fool...

A question you have probably heard before, but I played this mod for the first time a few days ago and had to post... AWESOME mod, simply incredible map with tons of finesse and great details, but the loading times when I hit the midgame became quite bad, at least 1-2 minutes per turn-switch. I know this is faster than the normal game with 31 civs, but it's still far too long to sit and stare at a monitor IMO. I dread going all the way to the end of the tech tree and what kinds of slowdowns that will involve. I was thinking (and desperately hoping) there was some way to speed the game up further? Any tips would be appreciated, as I am a bit of a newbie to large maps like this (usually go for random, standard map). I have a P4 2600 MHz with 512 MB Ram, so that shouldn't be the problem, right?

What have you guys done to tweak the speed, or do you just accept the wait (and read a book as I have been doing)?

Also, I played on warlord, and by the time retirement came along, I had just entered the modern age, with the AI far behind. What gives with the slow technology advancement, am I just that bad? Considering the AI did far worse, I don't understand. I have started a new game on reagent, and it seems a bit better though, but what difficulty is the mod primarily aimed at?

@Paragon:
The only thing that comes to mind for speeding up your computer and subsequently your waiting times is to get rid of resource-consuming spyware. I've seen the stuff totally bog down computers, reducing new rigs to slow piles of junk. There's no lasting damage usually but if you haven't done so yet, be sure to find and annihilate the damned bugs. I usually use a combination of Spybot: Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware, and Microsoft Antispyware. I would allow MSAS's agents to all run and protect the computer as they're very light, resource-wise, and very effective. As for Spybot, you should shut off the TeaTimer agent because it's heavy and annoying, but leave the other one on (SD-something). Good luck with that. (I generally just tolerate the waits with or without a book or my Gameboy, even in the endgame at Emperor, because then the game's at its most interesting and funnest imho.)
About your tech level, the problem is clearly the difficulty level. This is because the lower levels slow down the AI's tech, and the tech race's pace is always set by trade amongst the AI and between you and them. The mod is designed for Emperor level, and anything below Monarch is probably a bad idea, balance-wise. The difficulty level in the mod changes almost only by the selected civ, not by the selected difficulty level. If you feel you're not a very advanced player, simply choose an easier civ to play, like England, which is the ultimate beginners' civ, being flat-out unattackable until Sailing comes along and having many other advantages. You'll find that even tough games where you are eventually beaten can be very fun and satisfying, especially with the best mod ever made for this game, so don't worry about losing too much.
Good luck to you and hi to everyone else. I'm already itching to get home (Aug 7) and fire up my RoX again. :)

I'm sorry but it would be unfair. I was even tempted to change some other scores assigned to the goals for a better balancement after seeing a couple of submissions, but I kept myself from doing that.
But if all the challengers agree to retroactive changes, I could think about doing it. Let me know

the loading times can only be reduced removing some civs from the game, which will remove most of the fun, or playing with a random map.
All the possible means to reduce the times were already used, and waiting 1-2 minutes is awesome compared to 20-30 (try any big map such as TETurkhan's or elmencey's or Marla's).

I wait 30 minutes with my p3 in the very late game, but I think that in a so huge map with so many civs with standard civ I'd hit the day treshold
