Inspired by the story ‘People of the Persian Plains’, I have started my own story, the settings were random, and I got the Mongols as my Civ. Just like in People of the Persian Plains I have no set goals in mind, just play and write as we go along. Please note, the order of events listed in the story is not 100% as it happened I slightly changed the order of event to make it seem more realistic. I also claimed that the Chinese had a larger army then me, making each of their units 50 000 soldiers and each of mine 10 000, this is because in the actual Mongol invasion of china the Mongols were faced with armies 3-14 times larger than theirs and won 92 battles, while only loosing 4. The reason to this was the Chinese soldiers had no experience in battle prior to the Mongols; they were recruited to prevent the Mongols from invading 2 years before the Mongols declared war. As the Mongols learned to ride a horse as soon as they could walk, and shoot a bow, since he was 3 years old. This was the reason to their success, and this is the reason to the success of the Mongols in my story. I also write that the head of the Mongol invasion of China is a girl, this is because I am female and would rather have a female leader to play as. Please note, this is my brothers account that he kindly saved the password to on all the accounts in the house. Also I am 15 and Dyslexic so have relied on word to correct any spelling and grammar issues. Also I Google searched Mongolian baby names for the names.

Part 1: Mongolian Unification (circa 1270-1278) (1190-1220 in the game)
At the turn of the thirteenth centaury Mongolia was still split into many small tribes.
The Karuk’s, Beshik’s, Timur’s, Butaar’s and Khov’s were the 5 most powerful although there were more 20 others. They had been divided for a thousand years, and whenever one got to powerful the Chinese would attack them to prevent them from attacking (this happened in real life). The Mongols were considered Barbarians, although they had the most advanced fighting techniques in the world, war seemed to be the only thing the thought of, fighting endlessly and pointlessly. The unification of the Mongols would when Bactor, Khan of the Karuk’s, died. As in tradition the strongest of his children would become the new khan, they would fight to the death (or till one surrendered) and the winner would become Khan, Bactor had 3 kids, Kashi, Khasar, and Holun. Everyone was expecting Khasar to be the heir, but for unknown reasons he gave the title to his older sister, Kashi. To prove herself her first act as Khan was to Invade the Butaar’s, she fought on the front line and proved that she was a worthy Khan. She then Married the Beshik’s Khan, Baliq, following the wedding, the Timur’s declared war, funded by the Chinese they were expected to win, but lost. Kashi told her people to hold the Timur flag for the battle, so when the battle ended, the Chinese though the Timur’s had won. Within the next three years she united Mongolia. To make sure it stayed united she enacted many social reforms, she turned the tribal villages of Karuk (Karakhorum), Beshik (Beshbalik), Khov (Khovsgod) and Butaar (Ulaan-Butaar) into permanent cities. She also created a constitution and a new code of laws, expanding the freedoms of the common man to increase happiness. She got rid of the barbaric ways and created a permanent monarchy and instituted a serfdom and vassalage. The Mongols could no longer be considered barbaric.

Getting screenies: Press function key (fn, left of the windows icon key)+insert, these are saved to My Games--->Beyond the Sword--->Screenshots
Attaching screenies: Press Post reply (Quick reply does not work), then attach files button, then browse, look for the screenies you took, press upload and -Voila!- you have taken screenshots.
Good luck (on this one, and generally)

Print Screen always works for me.
I use photobucket nowadays (since I've long exhausted the storage on CFC).

I also use PrtSc, but I'm not sure if that is a key on all keyboards. Then store them somewhere (like photobucket) and, in your post, put
tags around the URL (there's a button that does this above where you are entering your text).

I like the story so far. I assume your RAND Mongols are near the Chinese, given your line about fooling the Chinese with the flag.

Following the unification China declared war in June 1278, worried of the growing nation to the north. Kashi mobilized a force of 70 000 soldiers and went south, her first obstacle was the great wall, but not expecting an attack the wall was undefended, and was bypassed easily, next she faced the city of Luoyang, the capitol of the northern states and a massive city. She camped outside the city, murdering people in the small towns and villages outside the walled city to try to force them out of the city, this was because she had no siege weapons and couldn’t attack a large walled city. The Northern states had 7 million people living in them before she arrived but had around 1.2 million when she finished destroying the town raids. The city garrison left the city to attack her, 50 000 spearmen and 100 000 axmen left the city to take down the heavily outnumbered Keshik, the spearman proved to be a huge problem and 15 000 valiant keshik gave their lives breaking the spearman ranks, after encircling the enemy the enemy the Chinese surrendered, with just 10 000 soldiers remaining. When marching into the city she was met with little opposition, as a result she did not raise the city. After taking the city she recruited 15 000 people into her own army being introduced to new weapons like catapults, her army was back to full strength but wasn’t as mobile as her new troops were on foot. (In the game the city flipped to me, and china declared was as a result this just seemed more realistic.
She continued to go south, taking cities with no opposition and then she reached Xian, the capitol of the western states. Xian was as smaller city, about half the size of Luoyang , but now that the China was prepared for a it was much better defended. Interested to try out the new siege equipment she stormed the walls, outnumbered 5 to 1 and fighting on the offensive it looked bleak, but once again the might of the keshik was proven as she lost 36 000 soldiers by the time the Chinese surrendered, however there would be no survivors, they had lost to many men to take mercy on the enemy, the city of Xian was razed to the ground. 1 week later the first of the keshik arrived in Beijing the capitol of china. Just 30 0000 keshik were at the city so they decided to camp, but the Chinese didn’t let them, they opened the gates and sent 150 000 axmen to attack the keshik, the keshik used a hit and run tactic to take on the Chinese, half the keshik had died repelling the counter attack, the emperor Chen Huang was killed in the battle and the people of Beijing surrendered, although Kashi was not at the battle she told them if they surrender then keep the city, if not then raze it. So the city of Beijing was left intact.

The approximate land gained by the Mongols in the first 5 weeks into the Invasion (1 turn in the game). The fast expansion was very surprising and the Chinese weren't prepared.

Part 3: Chinas First successful counter attack (August 1278) (1240-50 in the game)
The day after hearing about the death of the emperor and the invasion of Beijing the new Chinese Emperor, Hung Zhou, sent a force to liberate the city; General Lee was put in charge of the liberating force. He was given a third of the army of Free China, 150 000 Spear and axmen, 50 000 crossbowman and archers, and 100 000 horse archers, his plan was simple. Use the cavalry to attack and take the city, and have the foot units fortify the city while the cavalry cuts off reinforcements. This was because time was on the Mongols side, reinforcements were just two weeks away, and it would take 3 weeks to move the force across the country, he had to attack now. 1 week later he attacked the city of Beijing, 5000 keshik was all that remained, as 5000 went to report the success of the battle, and 5000 went to scout out the Chinese lands. Being outnumbered 50-1 Baliq, Husband of Kashi Khan, surrendered, however lee showed no mercy, killing 4991 of them, including Baliq himself. When she got to the city she found out of the slaughter, she vowed to kill everyone in the city, and every soldier, rather than the using the recruiting policy she had been using thus far. She arrived 2 days before the Chinese reinforcements and burnt the city to the ground killing almost everyone in the city. During the destruction of the city she met a person who begged for his life and claimed to be heir to the Japanese thrown, an island nation to the east; she makes trades with him and obtains a calendar and alphabet system in exchange for code of laws and guilds, he also gave her 30 million gold in exchange for his life. (Right after raising the city I met a Japanese scout, and thus met Tokugawa. I traded guilds and code of laws to the Japanese in exchange for 30 gold, calendar and alphabet). The Mongol expansion was huge; in just 5 weeks (1 turn in the game) the Mongols invaded half of China's land and 1/3 of the population. However a new threat had aroused the Chinese liberating force arrived, 200 000 soldiers (4 units in the game, 1 ax 2 spear 1 arch) were right outside Beijing, with only 55 000 (6 half damaged units) soldiers she was outnumber by 3-1.The stakes were high, she only had 7000 soldiers in her home provinces, so if she lost then the Chinese could invade her lands easily. She was in luck, the Chinese force was a patriot army, they were recruited after the war began and had less than a month’s training, on the other hand 40 000 of her soldiers had been trained since they took their first steps, so 35 000 of them had 18 or more years of training, they were the best of the best, unbeatable. Loosing just 19 000 soldiers she killed every single enemy soldier. The events of the 3 days from where she killed 4 million Chinese civilians and 300 000 Chinese soldiers, is now known as The Beijing Massacre. The 4-7 of August is a national holiday, to remember the events that took place on that tragic weekend. It was the first genocide to take place in the war,
Spoiler :
however more would come. :faint:

Part 4: The Fall of China (August 1279- November 1280) (1260-80 in the game)
After The Beijing Massacre, she split her force, 25 000 went north east to the Zhou region (HangZHOU and GangZhou are right next to each other in the map, hence the name) and 15 000 went south. The 25 000 who went North came across the city of Guangzhou, it was the largest city they had faced thus far, and with no siege equipment they camped outside the city. In the night, 50 000 Chinese axmen attacked the Mongol camp, killing 9000 of the sleeping Mongols (Even though I attacked, not them, I am using this two explain how I lost with 94.7% odds). For their night attack the Mongols razed the city (I actually razed the city to flip the nearby city of Hangzhou). Meanwhile the south was more heavily guarded then the scouts suggested, 25 000 Chinese swordsman ambushed the Mongols while crossing a pass in the Sonji Mountains.

Chinese ambush in the Sonji mountains

However the Mongols won with just 3900 casualties, the Chinese survivor retreated to the city of Hancheng. With 100 000 soldiers in the city, and only 12 000 soldiers outside the city they retreated waiting for reinforcements (31% odds didn’t look favourable). In the North Hangzhou surrendered instantly, so they survived with no deaths, and the Mongols went south to take the last Chinese city, Hancheng. They would wait 2 months (1 turn) before attacking to heal the injured so they could fight in the coming battle (I actually waited because I accidently moved my units in the wrong direction and couldn’t attack the city that turn). 80 000 to 200 000 were the numbers, considering the battles before this one, the odds looked good. The Chinese mustered a last attack Force would show up, 630 000 soldiers (19 units) would be spotted outside the city of Ulaan-Bataar. However the force wouldn’t face combat against the Mongols (2 of the swordsman and 6 of the chariots in the army were weakened, they were probably on offensive force attacking some distant enemy when we arrived, but returned to defend their home land, after further studies (aka entering world builder) conducted into the issue I concluded that they were attacking the independent roman cities east of Russia, if Russia’s border with china was open then they would have arrived earlier and I would have been in bad shape, but the border was closed, so they got their a turn to late) as the emperor would disband them upon his capture in Hancheng.

The Battle of Hancheng was a disaster, the emperor, planned the defence perfectly, and 70 600 Mongols gave their lives taking the city. 2 Mongol Tumetas (Mongolian for General) survived the battle, Jochi and Kashi. She decided years of peace would follow as she had no more enemies and she needed to focus on rebuilding. The city fell on November 11th, and China officially surrendered.

In 1372, (1370 game time) Arigh met with people from Greece, they seemed to hate her for unknown reasons. It turns out that the Greeks hated them because Kashi Razed Beijing, the Confucianism capitol (Greece, Russia, Japan are all Confucian and hate me as a result )

In 1392, he was assassinated, ending the Karuk Dynasty. The 3 Khanates met in the capitol to decide who would be the next ruler, Kachium Quand Khanete, of the Timur’s proved his sphere of influence was the greatest over Mongolia, and would become the next Khan
In 1405, the plague is over, everyone who got sick is dead, and the rebuilding phase begins, luckily it never reached the Mongols

Part 6, war again (1444-1455) (1435-55 game time)
Following the years of peace in December 1454 (1435 game time) the Russians declared war, with a sizable army of 120 000 soldier they tried to invade Ulaan-Bataar. With only 10 000 soldier defending, it looked bleek, Ogidie split his army, 50 000 of it would go to Kaifeng, a city Russia invaded during the Russia-China War, and 30 000 would go to Ulaan-Bataar, to defend, meanwhile 30 000 stayed in Karakhorum so if Ulaan-Bataar fell the capitol would still be defended.

The Mongol Strategy against the Russians

The Battle of Ulaan Started on January 1st 1454. 120 000 Russians would fight 30 000 Mongols, after a two month siege the Russians would attack, both sides loosing 20 000. Meanwhile 40 000 Russians would lay siege on Bukhara, so Ogedie would call of the siege of Kaifeng the day after it started, the 40 000 crossbowmen would be no match for the khan’s personal keshik, and they were encircled and killed with the Mongols loosing just 3000 casualties.
Meanwhile in the north Genghis Gov Khanate, placed in charge of the defence of Karakhorum, lead a counter attack to take the city of Ulaan-Bataar. With 30 000 troops, he would travel east narrowly avoiding the main Russian army which was 120 000 strong due to the recent cavalry reinforcements. He attacked the city on May 5th, and on the 9th he retook the city loosing 10 000 casualties to the Russian Pikeman. On July 1st the Russians decided to try to retake the city, 40 000 (2 Pikemen died attacking a 2 keshil) Russians died attacking the 30 000 Mongolian troops, and the 80 000 Russian survivors retreated. Mongolia lost just 6000 soldiers, and were heavily rewarded for their bravery. Half the fighters were 14 or younger, so no one was expecting a victory (1 of the defending keshik was built that turn).

attachment.php

The Russian retreat

After the victory Genghis retired, he moved to Karakhorum and became a military instructor (Great General born in Karakhorum after the battle, he becomes a great military instructor) More luck would strike the Mongols, as being outnumber Ogedei took the using superior tactics, he tricked the Russians out of the city, cut the line in half, and destroyed them. However the Pikeman refused to leave the city, and after taking out the pikes, only 5000 Mongols remained, however, after breaching the walls, the city surrendered, knowing that they couldn’t defeat the Keshik. 20 000 workers were assimilated and were moved to improve the tiles in Bukhara. Kaifeng officially joined the Mongol orbit on August 3rd 1455.

Oge's victory

After taking the city of Kaifeng the Mongols sent a diplomat to Moskva, he was killed during the meeting, obviously the Russians didn’t want peace.

and lastly here is the save. I have played up to date, meaning even though these posts were within 5 hours of each other, the next post will happen over the weekend

Great story, but could you give more over-all pictures? To show your whole territory and cities.
It's hard to understand what's east, what's south, which city is where, and all that.
But besides this I like the story, especially how you're influenced by the Persian Plains story :)

Great story I especially like the "History book" story telling as history is my favourite school subject after chemistry(Yeah I know that these are the 2 worst for many people) and I like the mongols in CIV though the civ is alot better than it's leaders' traits.
