No, I said the velocity could be zero, not is zero. You have to make up a plan that works with any velocity. Besides, if you started at a point and kept on moving to the left, the sub might have started to the right of the starting point, and have a positive velocity or velocity of zero.Originally posted by hot7530
well if the veolocity is zero then can you fire a torpido starting from one point, then slightly move to the left and fire another and do the same until you get him. right?

The general of U. S. army heard about infantry moving into his territory, so he sent a column of tanks. Then he got a message from the column, that this infantry is wielding only spears and they don't have any armor. The intrigued general then heard sounds of combat, shots, slashes... and later he heard that all tanks were gone.
HOW WAS THAT POSSIBLE?????

Mm - tricky cos you can shoot a number and have the sub move into it later.
Thats why I asked it vel could be positive or nagative. You cant be sure of whether its left or right of you.
Mm - sounds a bit like a maths probelm involving integers. Need two functions that guarantee to cross.
Time for a longer think.

I know this would be risky, but I'm a risk taker.
If the enemy sub always moves on this one line, perhaps getting on that same line would help.
