Riddles II

Chuck, a bestselling author of romantic fiction, had suspected for some time that his wife Eva was unfaithful, though he had no proof. One afternoon, while Chuck was working on his latest bodice-ripper, Eva mentioned that she intended to go to the movies and would be out for a few hours. As Eva went to the door, Chuck looked at her pensively, then resumed his work. Three hours later, Eva returned, took her coat off and asked Chuck weather he wanted some coffee. When she returned from the kitchen, Chuck asked her to sit down as he wanted to talk to her.
"Eva," he said, "I want a divorce."
Can you figure out how he knew?

I only went through the first 2 pages of this thread so I'm sure many other people have already said this. This riddle is about on par with Bilbo Baggins' "What's in my pocket?".

Even on just the first couple of pages there were several answers that you shouldn't have said were wrong since they are just as valid as the "correct" answer. (IMHO)

Here's a nice logic one:
Four convicts are trying to escape from prison. They have one torch between the four of them. They are trying to cross a bridge. They have seventeen minutes before they are caught. The torch is required to be with the crossers for the entire journey. Only two people can cross at the same time. One convict takes 10 minutes to cross, one takes 5 minutes, one 2, and one only 1 minute to cross. When two people cross at one time, only the slower's speed is used. How do all four manage to get across within seventeen minutes?

2 min + 1 min cross = 2 min
1 min goes back = 3 min
10 + 5 min cross = 13 min
2 min goes back = 15 min
1 + 2 min cross = 17 min and everyone is accross.

I knew 10 and 5 had to cross togeather but it took a paper and pencil to figure out how. I like this one a lot more than the Chuck & Eva thing!

Correct! :goodjob:

oh rightttttt sorry,
1. Jason was really excited when he found his name on his friends calendar, his friend said that his name was on every calendar, do you know where?

There is a man who lives on the top floor of a very tall building.
Everyday he gets the elevator down to the ground floor to leave the building to go to work. Upon returning from work though, he can only travel half way up in the lift and has to walk the rest of the way unless it's raining! Why?

Takes a bit of lateral thinking...

Sorry, Bose, already been posted. First Riddles thread, I believe.

He is a midget, and on rainy days he has an umbrella with him, so he can hit the top floor.

What I don't understand is why he just doesn't keep the bloody umbrella with him, so he doesn't have to walk up all the stairs.

Geez, your on to me!

I'll keep tryin...

A man is wearing black. Black shoes, socks, trousers, jumper, gloves and balaclava. He is walking down a black street with all the street lamps off.
A black car is coming towards him with its light off but somehow manages to stop in time. How did the driver see the man?

Other pieces of clothing - which you didn't mentioned - are white. He might have a white hat, for example.

Yuppers, I'm on to ya! I think this one was posted last thread, too.

It's daylight.

Umm, err, what's a balaclava? Hey, I'm an Yankian!

Correct,
1. Which is heavier a pound of feathers or a pound of gold (note this isnt as simple as it seems)

True, or however gold is weighed on a different scale (16 ounces to I pound) feathers is 12 ounces to 1 pound so gold i heavier.

AHHH. I'll get you yet Turner... your little dog too.

Um...

One day Kerry celebrated her birthday. Two days later her older twin brother, Terry, celebrated his birthday. How?

She was celebrating a day early and he was celebrating a day later! :D

Or they were born a few minutes apart on the night between febuary 28th and march 1st (each in another day) and the year they celebrated their birthdays had a febuary 29th. It's just that doesn't fit with him being older...

There is a situation that may fit, but it's an outside shot, don't think it'll work.

There have been identical twins who were born four months apart, due to problems with the pregnancy. But I'm not seeing how Kerry can be born 11 1/2 months later. . .

Oh crap. . .they're on opposite sides of the International date line. . .how did I miss that?
