Just learned that Sir Christopher Lee died on Sunday, June 7, at the age of 93. He had acted in over 150 films over the course of seven decades, was a skilled swordsman, released his first metal album at the age of 88, was the only actor in Lord of the Rings to have personally known J.R.R. Tolkien and got his permission to play Sauruman should the books ever be made into films, was the step-cousin of James Bond creator Ian Fleming (both of them served in intelligence work in WWII and Lee was the villain in the Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun), and was generally extremely interesting.

What a life.

Some of the older members of the forum (or at least members who like older movies) will recognize him not only from Lord of the Rings or the Star Wars Reboots That Shall Not be Named but also from the old school Hammer horror/monster movies.

Sadly, he's not as immortal as Dracula.

I only knew him as Saruman. RIP.

So. This was Bruce Lee's dad, right?

Was he any good at Kung Fu? And what movies has he been in?

I dunno if you're being sarcastic about the Bruce Lee but he's not Bruce Lee's dad. Bruce Lee was only 1/4 white anyways. :p

Christopher Lee however was apparently a very competent fighter, serving with the British special forces in WWII (I think) and was a capable fencer apparently. There's apparently a story that while on the set of LotR, Peter Jackson was instructing Lee on what to do when he was stabbed, and Lee corrected him by saying something like "well, that's incorrect, because I know the sound a guy makes when he's stabbed in the back"

I only just learned that in addition to acting, he was in a metal band. Would not have guessed that! Really cool guy, sad to see him go.

You don't know?

What do you mean, you don't know?

As for your observation that "Bruce Lee was only 1/4 white anyways", I haven't a clue what you mean by it, whether it's true or not, or what it has to do with the price of fish.

(Sarcasm is not the appropriate word, btw.)

Yeah he is awesome. I was shocked to hear his age, he was just in the hobbit films and yeah his skin has a bunch of age spots but 93? I would've guessed 80 tops.

Bruce Lee was 1/4 white, his mother was half-Asian half-white and came from a prominent business family of mixed Anglo-Chinese ancestry.

Wow.

And RIP

There's a man who earned my respect.
