Having an issue with rise and fall .. No mods loaded. After setting up the game config and hitting the new game button .. or even selecting play the game just shows "starting game" for a fraction of a second before booting me to the start menu. I have tried.

1. Disabling and unsubscribing to all mods.
2. Verifying the cache.
3. Disabling and re enabling all dlc content in the ingame menu.

I am currently in the process of re installing the game. If this doesn't fix it then frankly I declare this game broken. I have been a Civ fan for over a decade. But I think this may well be my LAST Civ game Beyond Earth was barely functional .. and this is only a little better .. I am so fed up of this wonky awful engine. And the hilariously inept AI. Honestly I only really even HAVE the new expansion because a friend bought it for me for my birthday. Ok rant over does anyone know how to FIX this!?

P.S Does anyone find the overly glorious music on the titlescreen EXTREMELY ANNOYING! Like do you imagine Firaxis and 2k rolling in piles of money and laughing at how we just won't stop buying these games. All with that jubilent "£&%!R&% music playing? Because honestly that's how I feel about the game at this point.

P.P.S Re install did NOT fix the problem ..

Sounds like an issue with the game loading from the database. Check your "My Games\Civilization VI\Logs\database.log" file for signs of any errors.

I am also having the same problem.

Correction: problem fixed for me at least. I went to additional content and got rid of my previous saved add ons, as well as got rid of my previous saves with those add ons. Restarted the game. Popped up just fine. Make sure your not using a preset configuration like i always do. Less clicking.

I deleted it before I started the game so that it would only have a record of the particular error I am experiencing. Here is the pastebin of the file after the game recreates it.

Edit : Also tried the solution that worked for the person above. Hunted down all my saves .. All my loadout configs and deleted them. Including autosaves. And then restarted. Same error.

Ramez,
Did you put in a ticket with 2K Games?

I had a very similar problem to yours. I put in a ticket describing the problem and attached my database log because I was getting unique constraints and was having a table formatting problem. They sent me back a generic "fix it" email. It listed off a number of things to do some of which I had not read on any forum yet. Half of the stuff I had already done but the rest I had not. I continued on down the list and in the end my problem disappeared. I would suggest going thru the list and if you still have a problem put in a ticket with 2K Games.

Here were their instructions:

Hello Kgavin,

Thank you for contacting 2K Support and for your interest in Civilization VI.

Is your game crashing after installing the new expansion? If yes, could you please try the following steps first?

  • Unsubscribe from mods
With the release of the latest update, many mods become incompatible with Civilization VI until their respective creators update them so these can easily cause issues when trying to play the game. For this reason it is highly recommended to always unsubscribe from mods when troubleshooting to ensure they are not the cause of the issue to begin with. To do so;

1. Go into the Steam Workshop
2. Click "Browse" and on "Your Subscriptions"
3. Unsubscribe from all mods in that list

Once complete, continue with the below troubleshooting steps in the order they appear in;

  • Verifying Game Cache
1. Load Steam.
2. From the Library section, right-click on the game and select “Properties” from the menu.
3. Select the “Local files” tab and click the “Verify integrity of game cache” button.
4. Steam will match the local files to the cloud files, and fix any errors it encounters.

  • Reinstalling DirectX
1. In the Steam installation folder of the game you’re having trouble with, there will be typically be a DirectX setup package.
2. Example file path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meiers Civilization VI\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\
3. Find and run DXSETUP.exe
4. Reboot the computer (mandatory)

  • Reinstalling Vcredist
1. Navigate to your game’s Steam folder – there will typically be a Vcredist folder.
2. Example file path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meiers Civilization VI\vcredist\\_CommonRedist\2012
3. Find and Run vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe
4. Should the files already be installed, you will be prompted to either ‘uninstall’ or ‘repair’. Choose ‘*repair*’.
5. Reboot the computer (mandatory)
6. Afterward, do the same for those located in the 2015 folder. Ex: : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meiers Civilization VI\vcredist\\_CommonRedist\2015

  • Run Steam as Administrator
1. Completely exit the Steam client.
2. Right click on Steam.exe
3. Select "Run as administrator"

If that doesn't resolve the issue, we would ask if you could supply us with the following files from your game;

  • Your DxDiag File
  • Your MSInfo32 file
I hope this helps someone.

I hope that someone is me. My game is crashing to the point of fully unplayable and its pretty disappointing. Getting ready to submit a strongly worded ticket if I can't get on with this soon.

btw my 2015 vc_redist.x64 and x86 both dont give the option to repair and say it conflicts with a previously installed version, but it doesn't say which, and I don't see any 2015 redistributables installed under Programs and Features, just 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2017.

I had this same problem after opening the game once. Removed my only mod, Raen"s Portugal, a non workshop mod, and tried to go. Game wouldn't even open. Followed the post above, cause I wasn't going to do the Nvidia driver bit from the last patch. Found 3 of my vcredist (x64) needed repair; 2017, 2015, 2013. Can be done from the programs and features, right click, change or modify, they repair themselves. Test, every thing worked fine. Of course mod removed. Saves don't have to be but will not open. Also had to start steam as admin, never had to do that before.

I can only build a city. cann't move my warrior.
Is it that I'm using CQUI. I want to deactive it but cann't find it how to do it
