It was long before, when our people started wandering around this land. We found many and many different places, but the nomadic life proved tiring. Thus, I think that the time has come to settle down. And perhaps we couldn't find a better place for this purpose: Habitable land, a good amount of resources, and sea. Uh, and no other tribes. That would be hell crazy, since we are not ready for warring anyone. In any case, however, our elite Phalanxes are defending our settlement, Athens.

We have also sent some more primitively equipped units to explore the wilderness outside, to find some other places we need to settle. Oh, and we put some colonists on a sea-moving vessel. No, we are not afraid of sea. As long as it stays shallow, at least.
The benefits of organized communities are great! Now we have our land, and we have to protect it. And we have to get all the best out of it, in order to reap the benefits. If we do it, a new era of prosper will start for our nation! If not, hell...

I had a positive report from the captain of the galley Paralos, which I had mentioned before. They successfully unloaded the colonists in a land, pretty much similar to our homeland, but with less forests. He has also reported that the colonists noticed some deposits of an unknown substance east of the colony, which got named Korinthos. We do not know its use yet, but many believe that it is not just a common rock. The other news the captain brought me is that there are signs of another civilized tribe east of the deposit. I am confident however that we will keep the deposit under our control...

Life is hard for an army leader, and it gets proved more and more every day. We get attacked by bears, the animals we hunted when we were nomads. We do enough to hold off, but not without causalities. Five men died out yesterday because of such an attack. Needless to say, we eat their dead bodies, otherwise we would be dead bodies as well. I am really jealous of the other guys, who are defending the main settlement. However, we are exploring some interesting land out there. We hope that it may turn out as ours in the long term.

Rumor has spread that hostile, uncivilized population masses are ravaging in the outside wilderness. Some of our recon forces are already dead, as per reports. For this reason, we researched on a solution, which would keep, at least our cities, safe. The solution involves putting piles of rocks around our cities, in order to make it difficult for our enemies to pass. Our leader, Pericles, approved of it, and now the research is complete. Given that we already know about a way to equip our soldiers with bows, it seems that our cities' defense is close to invincible at the moment.
However, an engineer from Korinthos gave to this breakthrough even more depth. What about, he told me, if we could extract that deposit east of Korinthos, to use it on defensive structures? Kinda interesting...

Interesting. I will be following this!

Many thanks Drummaster, part 2 to come soon!

These days, the main news are two. One regarding science, and one regarding outside politics.
Let's start with the outside-regarding ones. Another equal tribe has appeared in the world - not this silly one east of Korinthos. Those call themselves as the Indians, and their leader is, currently, Asoka, who seems peaceful. They seem to believe too much in the existence of higher beings, in fact they have named their philosophy "Hinduism". We hope we can learn more for it...

...from the under-construction Library system. Yes, my city governors reported that both of our settlements (Athinai and Korinthos) are investing effort on building central Libraries. Even though we have no advanced alphabet yet, there is a form of writing we can use to keep information, and we intend to do so in our libraries. And I am not joking, one of the first entries should be about Hinduism. Hopefully, if we exploit our libraries, other nations will envy our knowledge...

Yay update!
Is anyone else reading this?

I like the diary format. Interesting idea.

No, I got no workers. Otherwise I would make an entry from a worker XD
Expect this updated at the weekend.

Yeah only been waiting since January!

Anyway, I hope you do continue this and not let it die.

I am in the sorry position to announce that this one is on hiatus. Laptop broke down, so the save game is lost. Temporarily though, as the problem is fixable. Tnx to ya all for the positive comments. :)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I hope you get it back to working soon.

The professor looked over the top of his glasses. "Alas, those are all the diary entries that have been found. We do not know much more of the Greeks beyond that point, except for guesses and clues that mean nothing."

A collective groan went up from the audience.

Another vote for continuing this story. I will sacrifice a fatted calf and two chickens to Bilgeats, Pagan God of Computer Glitches, and pray he sprinkles blessings upon your lap top.

Boys (and girls) I have good news. I expect to have the laptop back fixed around March 15, which means that the story will be continued (although at slow tempo, due to studying and modding duties)
If you care. :p

The professor looked over the top of his glasses again. "Class," he said, "I have good news. More diary entries have been found, and we will be continuing our study!"
A collective "Hooray!" went up from the class.

Awesome!

Just found this, like your unique angle of story-telling.
Hope we don't have to wait too long for next update!

Very enjoyable. I love all these RAND stories!

In your screenshot with Asoka, the "Your head would look good on the end of a pole" option is highlighted. That deeply confused me. You didn't declare war... did you?

@BurnEmDown/Drumstudent: Many thanks!
@JiimBV: Thanks. And no, I did not war Asoka. Screenshot fail. :)
