I thought it might be fun for us to predict things about Rise and Fall before its released, and also to discuss what we're most looking forward to. Here are some of my predictions:
  • Korea will be the strongest new civ. Their unique campus seems really strong, and when combined with mines next to it giving science, and their governor science and culture bonus, players will be able to use them to jump far ahead.
  • Amani will probably be the most used governor. She'll be considered one of the best to upgrade.
  • Kilwa Kisiwani will be considered the best new wonder. If I'm understanding it right, you could get +15% production in all of your cities, and that's in addition to +15% in the city it's in!
Here are some things I'm looking forward to:
  • Using Amani to come up with some new plans based on getting suzerain bonuses quickly. Governors will open up a lot more opportunities for planning, and there should be some interesting combinations.
  • Building polders. They look so good! Most of the new civs seem ideal for builder playstyles. The Mongol UI looks great too.
  • Figuring out how to use ages and dedications to their maximum effect. Some dark age policies seem very powerful, like Monasticism (Science doubled in cities with a Holy Site. BUT: -25% Culture in all cities.). The eras system in general will add a lot to the game I think.
  • Enjoying the new scenery. I really enjoy the art in Civ 6, it can be really relaxing. There are some beautiful new natural wonders (and regular ones to).
What are you most looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to figuring out how to max loyalty so I can flip neighboring cities. Cranking up Culture in order to flip cities was my favorite meta-game in Civ IV.

Thank you for the positive thread.

I look forward to the Mongols. They have always been my favourite Civ. It will be fun storming across the plains and zipping around with their speedy cavalry. Crushing greedy Civs with Keshiqs and stealing other Civ’s cavalry. Oh my! Fantastic music, as well.

Scotland will be very fun, as well. Science and production go hand in hand. Not one dimensional and you can play in quite a few different ways. It’ll be fun to try to keep everyone ecstatic. :)

The Dutch will be fun with their polders. I have a dream to build Huey on a large lake with polders interspersed. Add in some fisheries from Liang where polders can’t go. Voila! Water Petra.

I like the Cree, as well. The dream of getting well promoted scouts eventually converted into Spec Ops will be fun to pursue. Their UI looks awesome along with the early trade route.

Georgia looks fun. I look forward to defending CIty States and trying to chain Golden Ages.

Chandragupta looks promising. Getting some Varu and trampeedling over my neighbours sounds entertaining.

I also look forward to mysterious headband leader. I am hoping it is the Mapuche. I am sure they will be fun.

The Zulus will be great, I am sure. Getting early corps and armies and swarming across the land like a plague of locusts. Hee hee.

The Mechanics will be fun. I look forward to making some fun alliances and participating in some emergencies. The Age system looks like it will be cool.

I look forward to forward settling getting punished hard. It’s about time. :)

All in all, there is a lot to look forward to.

Here are some of my predictions:

The strongest new Civ will be either Scotland or Mongol. Currently I think it is Scotland since it seems that its 100% prod bonus can make all game long if you use some methods. (Give away city and declare liberation war?)

The most used governor? Stewart of course.

Best new wonder? We haven't seen the effect of all new wonders yet. It seems that the Casa also works good.

I look forward to:
Pumping out a lot of Science with Korea
Polders
Scotland with it's Enlightenment Bonuses, bagpipes, and yes even the golf courses for some tourism.
Putting Zulu and Mongolia in the rotation when I feel like playing a warmongering game after a bad day.
The Ages system. Dark ages will be interesting.
Timeline. Nothing new in terms of gameplay, but it looks cool.
Causing revolts for other Civs with high loyalty for me. For Freeeedom!

Yes, I 100% plan on doing attempting a "loyalty-only" domination game. Probably start on something easy (i.e. Prince on tiny) as proof of concept and then go from their depending on how it goes.

Me too. I played a lot of games like this in cIV. It was lots of fun. :)

I of course am looking forward to more things than that.

Governors seem really interesting to me. And I really hope every game will be different regarding governors. It will be disappointing if I end up using the same ones every game. I love making gold, and I really hope the financier will be useful. I hope the game doesn't end up being that Magnus and Amani are the go to governors every game.

Cree, Scotland, Korea, Netherlands, and Mongolia all look interesting to me. Even Georgia I do want to play, and I was happy enough with Quill's livestream of them, religious victory with them seems ideal. So much so I still haven't finalized which civ I will play first. Probably Mongols, but I do look forward to playing each.

As for the strongest civ, it will be Korea as we've seen in the live streams. Korea is massively OP.

I like the timeline, it's a pretty nifty feature. Not sure how much I'll look into it after the first couple of games. But I may want to glance back at some things.

Governors as I said excite me the most. Emergencies probably the least. Loyalty and Dark ages are okay I guess, but not exactly amazing.

Predictions:
  • I agree Korea is likely to be the most powerful new civ, although we haven't seen the last two yet. There is a chance one of the others could be better, especially since they are likely to be early bloomers.
  • Magnus is a strong contender for most useful Governor
  • Victor is an even stronger contender for least useful Governor
  • Chaining Golden Ages is going to be really hard unless you are Georgia
  • Chandragupta is going to spawn next to me, and I am going to hate his stupid beautiful face
  • The AI is going to try and steal my Temple of Artemis every time

Looking forward to:
  • Governors
  • Loyalty
  • Trying to play tall, especially as Scotland
  • Trying to get my Cree scouts to level 4
  • Building Polders
  • Building the Temple of Artemis
  • New map types
  • Listening to Georgia's theme
  • Building Mekewaps
  • Building the Government Plaza
  • Building the Water Park buildings
  • Looking at the timeline
  • Settling near the new natural wonders

I am not completely convinced about new Era system, nor the emergencies, but I will probably enjoy those to some degree as well.

I never thought about the combination between Huey and polders, that'll be awesome! Looking forward to building some super-cities :) Liang is probably my favorite new governor, it seems like she also syncs up pretty nicely with China!

Mongolia looks like they'll be a lot of fun, it'll be nice to see how to use trading posts more effectively. And of course to capture all that lovely cavalry ;) Thank you for mentioning their music, I just listened to it, it's fantastic!

That sounds like a lot of fun! I do miss being so culturally dominant that cities would flip over. It'll be fun to try and figure out which civ and governor combinations do it well.

I also hope Magnus and Amani aren't always the right choices. It seems to me like the expansion is creating a lot of room for new plans and strategies, and I think the tier 2 and tier 3 governor bonuses will play a big role. Magnus's harvest/chopping bonus is powerful, but there could be some interesting strategies to rush Pingala or another governor's tier 3 bonuses.

It looks like amenities will be a much bigger deal in the expansion than they used to be, and it'll be fun to play Scotland since I usually like to get as many as I can :) Maybe grabbing a religion that has amenities and using Moksha to spread it quickly would be effective with them? Lots of things to try out!

Putting Zulu and Mongolia in the rotation when I feel like playing a warmongering game after a bad day.

That sounds good, crushing AIs and then figuring out how to keep those pesky citizens from revolting :)

Predictions:
  • Victor is an even stronger contender for least useful Governor
  • Chaining Golden Ages is going to be really hard unless you are Georgia
  • Chandragupta is going to spawn next to me, and I am going to hate his stupid beautiful face
  • The AI is going to try and steal my Temple of Artemis every time

Poor Victor. He might be popular in multiplayer? Maybe they'll buff him later and give him some unit/housing abilities. Or something to do with building walls faster?

I can see it now: going for a nice peaceful game and starting next to Chandragupta, Shaka and Genghis :D

Emergiencies and loyalty to make the world more dynamic.

Eras and ages shake things up too, and the timeline is a cool feature along with collecting era score.

Governors are lesd interesting for me but coulf be fun.

And of course... all the new civs, wonders and nat.wonders!

P.s. I think the new natural wonder camera mode is cool

I would actually guess Reyna the Financier as the most used/promoted governor. Her tourism bonus is the best governor bonus towards a culture victory, while her district buying ability is the best governor bonus towards the spaceport step of a science victory. And the district buying and gold/birder growth bonuses are just all around solid bonuses. Amani seems possibly a bit overrated to me. At best she'll win you one suzerainship, and the other governors' bonuses seem, in many cases better, than suzerainship bonuses. And while she's in a city state, she won't provide the same loyalty boost others do.

What I'm most looking forward to is the return of long term civ customization, through governor choice and government plaza buildings. While I do like like the civic tree, I really miss this aspect of Civ V's culture system. Additional civs, wonders, etc. are of course great too, but we've been picking those up gradually through DLCs as well, so adding more doesn't seems as dramatic.

I wanted a governor option for a while now - my own personal idea was to appoint Great People as governors to cities but I'm looking forward to seeing how this all works out in game.

My predictions:
  • Netherlands to be the most loved civ, if not the most played. Because polders! Cree, Scotland, and Georgia will be enjoyable as well.
  • Russia to be the most used vanilla civ just to try St Basil + ASRS
  • Korea to be the runaway civ.
  • The standard for tall will be between 5 to 7 cities
  • Magnus to be the most used governor
I look forward to:
  • Experience emergencies
  • Experience Dark and Heroic Ages
  • View the timeline and try to do some storytelling
  • Discover all the new natural wonder

So one thing to try with Korea's campus district is if I put a campus down, and surround it with 6 districts, will I get -2 science? :D
