Hello,

Very frustrating. I get that shaded out screen and I can't work around it. If I close it, I am still left with the Policy button on the bottom right and cant move beyond it. Tried restarting the game twice, and also tried different save points...still I come up with that Policy screen eventually.

I cant drag and drop a wildcard policy and for now, unless there is a patch...I cant play the rest of the game

I just encountered the same bug. This is literally a game-breaking bug. I think my problem started with a bug that happened on the previous turn. I was one Era Score point away from moving out of my Dark Age to go into a Normal Age. However, I was one point away when the next era began. When the next era began, the advisor told me that I had moved out of my Dark Age when I hadn't. This is probably an edge case bug, but definitely game-breaking.

I can provide save files if needed.

Hello PrestO,

In a way, I am glad at least someone else is experiencing this bug. It IS game-breaking.

You reminded me that I should add the Quick Save, attached...

Hello,

There is a workaround to this bug: Go back to the turn before this bug hits, go to the Policy screen and BUY the Policy Unlock (70 gold), CHANGE the black policy (Dark Ages) to another black policy; accept the policy change. Then, when the eventual policy screen does come up again, the bug is no longer there. The game may have ANOTHER blank policy towards the top.

The issue, and you hint at this, may be something about being in a Dark Age, and the black Policies.

Thanks for providing a solution. In my case, it was 410 gold :( Hopefully they fix this bug in the first Rise & Fall patch.

Just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly:

You are in a dark age and using a dark age policy.
The game enters the next era and you have not earned enough points for your next age to be a normal age, so you have another dark age.
However, the dark age policy you were using is not available in the new era, and so must be replaced.
The problem is that when you go to the policy screen to replace it the screen is grayed out with no option to make the change or to pay to unlock the screen, which then prevents progress to the next turn.

Is that accurate? Does that describe the situation for everyone reporting here? Has anyone experienced this problem under (even slightly) different circumstances?

I believe that was the set of events that I ran through. I had back to back dark ages and I was using a dark age policy from the first dark age. After the second dark age started it told me to fill my policies and when I opened it the original policy was gone with no way to select anything else to complete the step.

I don't remember the whole scenario, as I just made myself a workaround and moved on.

But, I do know I was in a Dark Age, and it asked me to select a policy...that is when I showed the defect.

If you're with Firaxis, why a month to look at a bug thread?

I've come across this problem. I was in the year 2035 and about to finish converting my 3rd civ to my religion and the Policy screen came up. Only problem is that the Wildcard screen was empty of policies. So I couldn't select anything and the game refused to continue playing until there was Wildcard Policy. But I eventually had to discard the game and start again. Not sure where the version number for the Xbox One is shown, I'll look next time I'm getting in the game.

I have a simular issue, I play on Xbox one.
I just added the expansion bundle and playing gathering storm in turn 270 i couldnt pick the last policy.
it happened after i chose the digital democracy government and its policies. in the same turn it made me pick the greyed out policy.

i tried going back 2 turns and change research but as soon as i pick one of the tier 4 governments it gets stuck.
can someone please look into this?
