So here is what happened:
I have been playing Rise of Mankind for a few weeks building my empire as Saladin...
Game started to be very interesting at around 250AD:
I was in 3rd place right after China and Russia.
My empire was spanned on where Saudi Arabia, Israel, Lebanon, and Syria are today as well as big part of today's South Africa (borders with Zulu, Egypt, Abyssinia)
Then at around 750AD, all these countries suddenly started a war against me. All at once:
China
Russia
Egypt
Korea
Abyssinia
Mongolia
Sumeria
Mali
Vikings
Ethiopia
I had either Pleased or Cautious with EVERYONE... none of them were even annoyed... and all of a sudden they open war.
The weirdest part is that 1 turn after was started I get about 20 Chinese units (mostly elephants) attacking my cities in South Africa... How the hell did they get there so fast???
Am I missing something?? Is this a bug of some sort??
There is now way I am going to survive this war and there was no reason for them to start it.

Any ideas?

When the Apostolic Palace is in game, if they vote to declare war on you, every member does so at the same time. He was saying that could be the cause.

I don't know if it was the AP or not, but it sounds like the Chinese were preparing for war. The AI doesn't usually declare war and then amass an army (unless they were bribed into war, or are declaring war for some diplomatic negotiations collapsing).

I'm only guessing, but I expect that the units were being moved into position for many turns before they declared war. It's always a good idea to keep "eyes" on enemy troop movements. Use spys to track land units and caravels to track fleets. If you see a big troop movement, they are either at war or planning war.

It might be the apostolic palace. Every civ that has that religion in their cities will be a member of it and even if it isn't their state religion they have to abide by the rules. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think the AI in RoM is a little enhanced. I got dogpiled in a game recently in a similar way, and it may not be the AP that's at fault. I had the AP in my game and it made zero difference. I have played about six games with the RoM mod, and I've noticed a couple of things:
1. The power rating seems to be more important than in vanilla BTS.
2. The leaders seem to be more aggressive. They are more likely to DoW, and less likely to accept peace unless there is a benefit to them.
3. The little nuisance rebellions can spawn an angry little civ, which may vassalize to a bigger one. Their relations modifiers seem to affect the big civ as well, though only slightly.
4. Civs switch religions more easily.
My suggestion: Make nice with the biggest civ on the leaderboard. Match religion and civics, and feed techs/pay tribute etc. Do what you can to keep that civ at happy, because you will get DoWed no matter your power rating, and the smaller civs will gang up to take you down. You'll need an ally. I also find that playing RoM at one level down from your usual one makes the game the same difficulty as your usual game. (But that's just me. :))

Is that an earth map you played? I never understood how to make earth map on RoM mod.

Thanks Lemon!
I think you are right... They do seem more aggressive. Especially China and Russia (who said this game is not realistic?? :) )
I will start again... no way I am going to survive this war. Will try to pay more attention to religion and civics

Burn: Yes. I play huge earth map on RoM. Just loaded it the usual way... dont think I did anything special.

Is the earth map in the mod? All I see is Earth2 and I think the starting positions are randomized.
