RK-01 First Strike First (Warlords)

Pre-turn. Since London is unhealthy change citizens from food tiles to production tile. Changed Oracle from 21 turns to 17.

1. Worker E of Sakae finished>send to gems.

2. Horses hooked up. Worker E of York finished>send to plains W of ivory to begin connecting Sakae. Worker W of Nottingham finished>send to hill W off London to mine. York at max health so change citizens from food tile to quarry.
Civ4ScreenShot0000.jpg

3. York archer>archer. Worker on gems>road. Worker N of York finished>go to silk. Worker on hill W of London>mine.

4. IBT- Washington offers Polytheism for writing. Can not get any better so, yes. Worker on silk>road.
Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

5. Nothing...

6. York archer>archer. Had to drop science to 60%, loosing money. Pyramids built in far away land. Worker W of York road>more roads. Worker finished road on gems (need iron working to mine)>send to hill to SE. Plan to cottage silk ‘til calendar comes in-need the gold. Barb archer appears outside Sakae-:lol: :P you can’t get us!
Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

7. Cottage the silk and build more roads. Nottingham will grow in 1 turn, will work coast for gold.

8. Meet Hatty. She won’t trade with us. More roads…
Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

9. York archer>archer. Worker W of London finished mine>road.

10. Sakae borders expand.

11. Currently Oracle done in 6 and math in 8. Tweek London citizens so math in 7 and Oracle in 8.

12. York archer>library. Think science needs help… More roads.

13. Make trade with Washington- Alphabet for agriculture+sailng.
Civ4ScreenShot0005.jpg

14. Pliny claims we are most powerful! Cool. Nottingham barracks>lighthouse (extra food on the coastal tiles). Sakae is now connected.
Civ4ScreenShot0006.jpg

15. More roads. Can now trade for Monotheism, but don’t have anything she wants… if we got this we could wind up with Christianity… although I think construction (catapult) is best for our free tech from Oracle.
Civ4ScreenShot0007.jpg

16. More roads.

17. Math>Iron Working. Sakae barracks>archer. More roads…

18. Used free tech to get construction. London Oracle>catapult.
Civ4ScreenShot0009.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0008.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0010.jpg

19. Go ahead and :whipped: the cat in London.

20. London cat>galley (so we can see some more of the NW coast our exploring troops can not get to.

Well, here’s our power (#1) and a couple trades available. Not sure this is a good idea though. We want to keep the monopoly on cats since we only have archers and plan to attack soon, right?
Civ4ScreenShot0012.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0013.jpg

since we will not be using the horses or copper we should try to trade them off after we get currency.

Great turns, Codeman! Now, about the save... :D

We have all cheap early game wonders... unbelievable! I could never do that in a normal Prince game. Not that I've played many Raging Barbs Prince games.

I note that we have Monty and Genghis here. They are not likely to trade with us for a long time. And also they are some of the most traitorous leaders in the game... I propose more archers defending on the NW side.

The only thing we must trade for at the moment is Metal Casting which leads to Machinery and eventually Crossbows.

Looks like I will see dozens of catapults in the future. :lol:

Time for military buildup soon... or should we build up our infrastructure (we will get currency soon to help this, maybe code of laws afterward) so we can stay out of debt at 60% science?

EDIT: I went over the screenshots again. WHAT!? Genghis Khan has the LOWEST POWER!? :lol:

Thanks!

Got it, will play shortly.

Nah, the lowest power was based on the Pliny "survey". Guess GK built more troops since he learned that his nation is the least powerful according to Pliny...

GK: "WHAT!? Who this Pliny a******? How dare he claim that my military is hopeless? Bring him here, and I shall show him the axe!"

Noisy kid who breaks all rules, checks in!

No save; unfinished turns. I need a vote, see end of post.

Turn 0 (130BC)
Why do we need Iron Working? To remove jungle I guess.

Turn 1
Hatty asks for Open Borders, sure... but why?
A-HA! I knew Genghis Khan would turn on someone sooner or later. It's all Pliny's fault.
This is hard to believe. GK is lowest in score and he's declaring war on Hatty.
Because we have open borders with Hatty, our lone warrior begins to scouting out Hatty's land.

Turn 3
Sakae: Archer -> Catapult
Move worker from London to York
Monty founds new city W of Tlatelcoco. A :smoke: move, I'm certain.

Turn 4
Hatty asks us to declare on Genghis. I accept, seeing it's more of a proxy war than anything else. We get -1 relationship points with Brennus and Montezuma, two people who we'll be attacking in the future anyway.
GK's stack nears the Egyptian capital of Thebes. Archer+Warrior. :lol:

RK1-2-0.JPG

Turn 5
London: Galley -> Catapult
Galley moves west to explore to coast

RK1-2-1.JPG

Turn 6
Hatty wants Math for her Monotheism. NO.

Turn 7
Sakae: Catapult -> Catapult

Turn 8 (35AD)
York: Catapult -> Catapult
London: Catapult -> Catapult
Reseach on Iron Working complete, pausing for team vote

Before I continue, Codeman and/or Furrie, what's the better next tech path after Iron Working?
1. straight CoL?
2. Currency -> CoL?
3. Metal Casting -> Machinery?

THE WORLD AT 35AD, according to BBC spy satellites:
RK1-2-2.JPG

i think we need to get markets soon. although they won't do any good with out plenty of cottages. the second benefit of currency-when we sue for peace we could demand gold or techs. until we have currency we can only demand techs.

iron working was to clear the jungle on the gems. we could really use mines on those tiles.

i probably would have joined against hatty. she is close and we could do some damage pillaging. could use the :gold: maybe even get a city.

that's my 2:commerce:

...Genghis didn't actually invite us to attack Hatty though.

Hmm... I thought we were gonna declare on Brennus first, hence the stack of doom at York (screenshot uploaded). Besides, Hatty is quite far and the maintenance might kill us. Brennus on the other hand, has a holy city we can use and is closer by.

Currency -> CoL it is then. Gems will probably be up soon and I'm now cottage spamming on York's grass tiles.

cool. it was just a thought. yes the original plan was brennus, but when the chance is presented.. it would be 3 on 1 and we coulda razed if we wanted.

but now to prepare for brennus. probably be ready soon. looks like there are quite a few archers and cats massing. :)

Turn 9
...just one turn after I uploaded the screenshot, it happened...
IBT: MONTY DECLARES ON HATTY. :lol:

Turn 10
We pause to deliver you this imporant announcement from Shaka, live from Zululand:
MessageFromShaka.JPG

Turn 11
Nottingham: Lighthouse -> Archer
Great Prophet Mo Tzu emerges in London and fortifies outside York, perhaps ready for some hot Hindu action. :lol: OR... dammit, we could attack Hatty and steal Buddhism for maximum fun and profit? I'm leaving it to the next player/s to prepare for WAR!

Turn 12
London: Catapult -> Granary
We've hit the military unit limit. We have been penalized 1gpt for building the last catapult. Guess it's time to go declare soon!

Turn 13
Sakae: Catapult -> Library
Now we are at -1gpt from +1gpt two turns ago.

Turn 15
END TURN!
Since it's past 1AD now, let us reduce turns per player to 15.

The world at AD 155:
Disclaimer: Catapults are all first strike due to variant rules. :smoke:
RK1-2-3.JPG

Coming up:
Grandpa Churchill declares war and hopes to steal someone's religion with Ho Tzu! Who will it be? Brennus or Hatty? And later, someone will be eliminated from the game. Who will it be? Find out, when "For Love of First Strike" returns!

Furrie is up next as the host for 15 turns, but if Codeman prefers to continue immediately, then Furrie may take his turn after Codeman.

RK checking out!

I almost forgot the SAVE FILE...

I'm here !!!
Back into the action.
'Got it', i'll play tonight or tomorrow morning.
I hope I can do some good killing, moeha!

Okay, I've played my 15 (I think, it's late and i'm not counting to good).
Well, those were some exiting turns, the report can be quite long, but i'll try to keep it short.

Pre: I look around and all seems well, I hit enter.

T1: York: Catapult -> Catapult
Nottingham: Archer -> Archer
Discover one of Ghengis cities with our Galley
Move the forces to the front, close to Vienne.

T2: Montezuma asks to declate on Hatsepsut, I refuse offcourse
I say "Hello" to Brennus, followed by "DIE", he isn't very pleased.

T3: I notice we need markets badly, luckily the war will solve this for a large part.
I notive the fortified GP near York undefended, I move him back to London and fortify him.
I bombard Vienne's city defenses to 0%.

T4: London: Granary -> Archer
Brennus enters our lands with 3 Axes, Yikes! I decide to move 4 attacking archer back as defense.
The Attack On VIENNE
- Catapult loses to Archer
- Second catapult withdraws
- Catapult kills Axeman
- Archer loses to Spearman
- Archer kills Archer
- Archer kills Spearman
- Take and keep Vienne (Fish + Iron).

T5: Heal troops... (Very Peacefull ;))

T6: Make peace with Ghengis, that was a hard war :lol:
Brennus keeps pillaging with those damn Axeman
London: Archer -> Archer
Nottingham: Archer -> Archer

T7: Catapult kills 1 Pillaging Axeman of Brennus.

T8: Catapult kills another pillaging Axeman of Brennus, I rename the Catapult Axe Killer immediatly
I attack the last axe with 67% oddds with our Drill IV Archer and we win!
I indentify next target -> Tolosa.

T9: Roosevelt asks Gems for Wine, I accept
I promote our Drill IV archer with CG 2 Promotion
London: Archer -> Archer.

T10: Sakae: Library -> Archer

T11: York: Archer -> Archer

T12: London: Archer -> Catapult
The Attack On TOLOSA
- Catapult dies to Archer
- Catapult dies to Archer
- Catapult kills Archer
- Catapult kills Spearman
- Archer kills Spearman
- Archer kills Archer
I take and keep Tolosa, the location isn't too great, but it's good enough. I decide to make peace with bennus because we need some new Catapult, I get Monotheism, that's good enough.

T13: Sakae: Archer -> Catapult
Vienne: Archer -> Barracks

T14: Monte asks to cancel deals with Egypt, I decline
Currency is invented, I pick Monarchy -> Feudalism path.

T15: Brennus demands Meditation, YEAH RIGHT :crazyeye:
York: Archer -> Catapult
I finally pop Theology with that Prophet, York becomes holy vity of Christianity, I don't convert yet.

Some general ideas/suggestions for next players...
1. I decided to go Fuedalism path instead of Machinery because then we can get Vassalage (+2 XP / Free Units)
2. I made peace with Brennus to reinforce, once the peace deals stops, Attack him with the stack which is at his borders (near Vienne).
3. I popped Theology but didn't convert, maybe wait with converting and look for some possible trades first.
4. Next target is clearly Montezuma, he's at -2 at the moment, and will most likely backstab us, unless we do it before him :scan: .
5. CATS RULE
6. Attached screenshot shows our Score, looking good :eek: .

I presume Codeman is up, if he can't play Robo can pick this up :)

Excellent work, we now have six cities.

Will get it later (6-7 hours) since Codeman is MIA and probably busy with his SGOTM.

Why didja get Theology... hmm... we could've built the Hindu shrine later after the peace treaty expires... don't we need the money? But then again that might be a good move since we're rebuilding our new improved army... Now Fortified With Theocracy and Vitamin C™.

And where was all that pillaging taking place? I hope Brennus didn't bust our cottages at York, they'd take forever to "upgrade" :(

EDIT: One more thing, I don't think Feudalism is a good idea at this point. We don't want ANYONE to capitulate to us (did I turn on No Vassal States? I forget) and Crossbows > Longbows at this point, so I would switch to Metal Casting -> Machinery. Plus we need those courthouses so Code of Laws is another good pick... do we have CoL yet?

Just some explanation why I did what I did.

About Theology, it seemed the best idea at that moment, it doenst really matter too much, we got a religion now and we will get the Christian shrine sometime in the future, just get Theocracy now ;).
Chances that we get a Great Prophet in London is currently 100%, and it won't be changing to soon, so will most likely build churce of ntivity with it, the Hindu Shrine would have taken almost as long and we didn't have any Hindi infrastructure, so I don't think we lost anything with my move.
I'm going Feudalism for Vassalage (the +2 XP / Free units), it's mainly because for those 2xp and to cut unit costs, do feel free to chance offcourse.
We don't have CoL yet, just do what you think what seems the best, we are way in front of everybody anyways, so we shouldn't worry at all.
Those Axes pillaged 1 Mine and the Stone Quarry, so it wasn't that much ;).

Good luck with your turns.

Yes, losing the mines are not too bad, very easily rebuilt by our idle workers.

Feudalism... well, Vassalage is nice; although I still feel the need for quick crossbows.

Proposed tech path:
Metal Casting, Machinery, CoL, Civil Service, Monarchy, Feudalism
(if we don't get Monarchy and Feudalism from the AI first, they're likely to get it)

Good point on the Theology (besides the Theocracy, which is always good). Theocracy don't work without a little missionary work; it's not that much effort. Hindu is currently a major world religion, but that's nothing we can't fix. :D

Looks like I seesome builder turns in the future.
:hammer:

I agree to the tech path, if i ain't mistaking some AI's have Monarchy allready (I think Monte did). So if we attack him we can get it during a peace deal.
You might not want to wait to long for re-attacking Brennus, he has 2 cities left which should be easy to capture.
Then we can focus on Montezuma, and after that we will have to see, maybe during the attack on Monte get some Markets/courthouses up?
Will see how it goes, the advantage of war is that you keep getting that gold income when taking cities so we can run a deficit.

Hindu is the world-religion indeed, naturally we can't be Hindu then now can we? ;)
You playing now?

Nope, I'm about to leave the office now and can play in 1 to 1 1/2 hours :lol:
Fortunately I can post and strategize while being bored to death with nothing to do (usually) on Mondays here.

I'm a web page developer. There isn't much to update on my company's website on Mondays. Sometimes I get short breaks everyday.

I see, lucky you I geuss :).
I'm still studying :D, well i'm playing CIV IV then studying :)
