RK-03: Alien Nation (Warlords AWI OCC)

Playshogi chopped the trees and the lab also gives -1 health.

Dont forget that production is not the limiting factor, it's research. It's better to produce slowly and optimize research. We need 50 turns more to research all than to produce. When we finished research, we can optimize for production by building mines and workshops. This could shorten production a few turns.

Data to Captain Picard:

I have calculated we need at most 98 more minutes to finish researching all techs, and we have 112 minutes left before the shield fails. As long as the last repair to the starship does not take more than 14 minutes to replicate, we are going to make it and leave this forsaken world behind.

Data's Tricorder said:
Plastics - 13 turns - Hydro plants - 300h -
Satellites - 11 turns - Thrusters - 1800h (Al) x 3
Fission - 10 turns
Robotics - 15 turns - Docking Bay - 3000h (Al)
Ecology - 13 turns - Life Support - 1500h (Cu)
Fiber Optics - 17 turns - SS Cockpits - 1500h (Cu)
Fusion - 19 turns - Engine - 2400h
Genetics - 0 turns - Stasis Chamber (Cu) - 1800h

As such, I suggest we leave Ecology the last tech to be learnt, making the Life Support repair, one of the easiest module, the last to be replicated. Further, we should refrain from chopping any more trees to coerce the replicator to work faster, these should be all chopped when building the last module. For that, I have mapped out which are the trees that will help in replicating, which are the trees that will not.

If we do as I recommended, I believe we can make it out of here with some 10 minutes to spare. There is no need to be concerned with the research speed.

---------

I was shocked when I learnt that there is 2 more casing to be built. I completed the chambers, completed the hydro plant, and completed 1 more casing.

I have also popped 2 huts, both turned out to be hostile :crazyeye:

I suggest the following build and research order:

Code:
Satellites (1) - Casing (2)
Fission (10) + FO (17) - 3 Thrusters > Research
Fusion (19) - Cockpits > Research
Robotics (15) - Engine
Ecology (13) - Docking Bay
Whatever - Life Support > Win!

Here is the city screen for you to do the maths ;)

Oh, we popped 1 great artist (against all odds). I suggest saving him for the last golden age (with the free engineer from Fusion). We are going to get one more great person in 40+ turns, hopefully it will be a scientists to lightbulb one relevant tech.

>>> The Save (1960AD) <<<

I saved the Artist to combine with the Engineer from Fusion to trigger a Golden Age. I moved him into the city for safekeeping. May as well take it as soon as available. Somehow, I erred in that the Cockpit completes in 3 turns, but fusion in 10, so there is nothing to build for 7 turns except research. Also, the city grew to size 25, but we are not losing food. 30 click turns goes fast. The rebels tried to break out with a treb, but failed.

Captain's log, stardate 21993.

Picard: Data, Report! We've been here for years, all natives have been pacified, and I am bored to death. How much longer?

Data: Captain, We are currently working on the cockpit which should be ready soon.

3 years later, stardate 21993.

Data: Captain, the cockpit has been completed. I worked as fast as I could, but as you know I am on this alone.

Picard: Com'on data keep on it. We have nothing to build, what will you do now.

Data: I will assist the research team for a few years.

6 years later, stardate 21999.

Picard: What kept you so long?

Data: Captain, we had some setbacks but I am happy to report Fusion came in, we started on Robotics. Even better, a Great Engineer has come to help us.

Picard: Good, good. Tell him to join our Great Artist to start a Golden Age.

Data: Already have Captain.

5 years later, stardate 22004

Data: Another great person has come to our aid. It is a great Scientist.

Picard: How can he help?

Data: He offers to help us research flight so we can take to the skies.

Picard: I guess he does not know we are about to launch back into space, the poor sod. Tell him to join our scientists in the research of Robotics.

8 years later, stardate 22012

Data: Captain after working for years day and night I have completed the SS engine.

Picard: and what to do now?

Data: We also have Robotics. I am assisting the construction team in building the Great elevator.

Picard: WHAT?!?

Data: It helps our spaceship production with 50%.

Picard: Yes I know Data, but I was told we could not build it. Find out who made this analysis.

Data: I scanned the logs and it turns out it was Lt. Barkley.

Picard: Why did you not check his studies?

Data: I was busy, Captain. It turns out he does not have the qualifications for this kind of analysis. He must have used some outside help.

Picard: Yes, he does get occasional help from Q, the worldbuilder. What devious trickery.

Data: What should we do, captain? Build the last two parts or the elevator first.

Picard: I only know one lifeform that can help us in this dire circumstance, let's ask the RK. This decision is key and makes the difference between victory or success.

Data: "We've finished reparing the docking bay and the Life Support, Commander."

Data: "We even had time to sneak in your secret research on Fascism."

Kirk: "Excellent work, let us launch immediately!"

Kirk: "Ahh, the sound of rocket engines. The rumbling of the bridge... so refreshing. Finally, we have gotten away from that accursed planet and are in space again... our home away from home..."

Picard: "So where are we going now?"

Kirk: "Where else? Where no man has gone before."

Picard: "You chauvunist pig..."

Data: "Commander Kirk, I also have with me the log that you requested, of the genocide we have caused on this planet."

Kirk: "Excellent! I am so glad to have been a part of it..."

Picard: "Good heavens! This will look bad on my resume. Delete those records immediately!"

THE END

Thanks all and Robo Kai for this enjoyable game.

Didnt think it would be possible with one city on Immortal. I guess one city is more powerful than it seems and what a big difference a few MAs make.

Heh heh. Wanna retry this game with 1 MA less?
Nah. :D

While in a regular game we'd not be settling those great people, here we put a whole lot of them in!

I'd like to give a big THANK YOU to all the players for being such great sports and strategists. Also a THANK YOU to the lurkers for following our game and making RK-03 one of the most clicked SG's outside of TheRat, LK and RB series.

Well SG's usually get less fun in the mop-up phase. And when we're just poking the MA's at stacks... :D

Excellent finish, but I'd like to know how I could be so far off in prediciting the amount of time it took to actually research stuff. Must be some hidden bonuses somewhere. Great game and I enjoyed especially the quick play.

Well that's because after you made your calculations we were able to improve our research in various ways.
1. We built a lab.
2. We had more great specialists.
3. We built a hydro plant (which means more research built).
4. We had some golden ages.
5. We bulldozed some lumber mills in favor of watermills and windmills.

does it?
at least in vanilla civ4 only half of the base production is converted to research (just checked it)

In Warlords (100% of hammers including bonuses) a power plant still improves production by 50% if a factory is built. So yeah, we did research more. We were building research in-between the construction of space parts.

in Vanilla it only takes base production before any bonuses for science/wealth/culture production
I haven't tried warlord yet although it's on my PC
