Rogue AntiVirus

Yes. But at least its worse-implemented big brother than apple is.

Latest malware I got was "Internet Security 2010". Absolutely FRIED my registry had to totally reformat, good excuse to update to Win7 though.

I didn't have any antivirus except the basic firewall in control panel (I was deployed, licenses expired).

But other than that a combination of Avast + Malwarebytes is 99.99999998% effective against everything I have seen if you actually buy them. Even the freeware version of Malwarebytes can clean up most regular crap.

Avast is (or was 3 weeks ago) having a "sale" 2 year license for price of one I think it was 30-50 bucks? Not too bad.

Oh and Norton Internet Security (the actually program I purchased from a comp store) fried one of my dummy computers. Got about 808840828089082509825 (email [in russian] blocked) as soon as I installed and tried to register it.

*@) norton

Even the free Avast works quite well.

Microsoft Security thingie is also real good (name slips my mind right now)

Microsoft Security Essentials, I put it on my computer when I upgraded to windows 7 cause I was tired of having to renew Avast's free license. It doesn't use that many resources, so it's good in that respect.

I never had it catch anything, so I couldn't tell you about how good it is. Hopefully, that means I am virus free.

There we go! Avast's license is a once-per-year thing, so I dont really mind it.

As for not catching anything: no news is good news.

I've had the MSE catch a couple of things. I've got it running on a lappy and a test lappy, seems to do okay.

Rouge/Rogue... am I the only one giggling at this?

I notised the typo too but it wuld not be very nice for me to complain considiring all my typos of late. Im not even sure what rouge is.

My initial reaction was "OMG Communist Antivirus"

Thank you Turner, I have been trying to resist posting comments about rouge/rogue for days!

I have heard good things about the current microsoft security essentials. I have it on my W7 box and so far so good. My father recently had his PC recovered by a local computer place and they put that on his machine as they felt it was about the best at the moment.
