This was my first "serious" game, on my Aptiva IBM. I got it out of a serial box.

Today I was playing it and got bit by the nostalgia bug.

Rollercoaster Tycoon is not a serious game. It's eh.
Also, this thread is extremely spammy. Believe it or not, people don't read these forums to find out what you did today.

Abgar, stop jumping on Aimee every chance you get.

Anyways, Roller Coaster Tycoon was a great game when I still played it.

Didn't the developer, oh whats his name, also make TTD? That was a great game too. And I'm sure he also made a few other games, the graphics look very similar in a lot of them. I like the nice, clean graphics.

Roller Coaster Tycoon was so fun.

When I was smaller, I actually made a Civilization-themed amusement park. :)

I loved it. I had both expansion packs, but when I dug the disc out a few months ago, the expansion disc was cracked, so I had to play vanilla. It was a pain in the ass without having the "do not enter" signs and all the extra concessions, so I bought RCT3. :) RCT3 is great, it's a bit steeper learning curve but it's a huge improvement over 1.

It's fun to drown those entertainer pandas.

I have RCT, RCT Deluxe, and RCT 2.

Is there any differences between Deluxe and 2, other than the rides? I'm debating whether to install it.

They're completely different games. Deluxe is just a repackaging of the first game and its two expansion packs.

I have the first game with the espansions and the second game with expansions. I don't play the first game anymore because it doesn't work on Vista.

I found it works if you run it as administrator. This is if you get a driver error or something like that.

p.s. in the OP, I meant "cereal box."

RRT was a very good game for its time. Since Chris Sawyer made the game essentially solo (he contracted some art and sound effects) he go rich off of it.

I also have a question -- is it just me, or do custom-made coasters not work? Whenever I try, it starts moving, but as soon as it hits a rise it goes backwards back to the station. :dunno:

They work, you need to put acceleration rails (it's a button on the toolbar) on the rising tracks.

I only have the first RCT with no expansions whatsoever.

Thank you :) I'll have to look at that.

Edit: It works, but the custom-built coasters keep crashing on me!

I used to build enormous go kart tracks that went all over the place as they got high enjoyment ratings and it was interesting to see how big the queue would get.

I pretty much always built custom roller coasters.

Make sure you don't go too fast into the turns (if you have too, set up a brake before a turn)

And use banked corners rather than normal corners if you know its likely to be going quick. Plus don't descend too far on the first drop as realistically you want a few drops with some rises as well. I generally try to avoid the boosters and brakes unless absolutely necessary.

Yeah this, but I said 'add a brake' just in case if she made a HUGE drop.

Go Karts were always so popular...

And same here.

RCT2 would be in my top 5 games ever, right after civ4.

on custom, i was soooo good. we're talking 8+ excitement. i loved that game.
