I would like to play but I've never played an SG before. I will probably need a little help to make sure I don't do something wrong.

i would like to play, too :)

however its also my first SG, so i hope i get it all right...;)

So you guys will play?Cool! Will its just the same as any Ciz3 game except that you only play so many turns(20 in this game)then you do a report about what happened during your turns then you post the game (in the same post if you can remember it)
here.
:)

From reading other SG threads, I know that we are not supposed to automate workers and use long goto orders. Is there anything else I should know before we start?

Andy S

i just started the game and finished my first 20 turns...i will write a summary very soon...:)

screenshots:

4000 BC, the beginning...

3500 BC, discovering ivory and potential next city-site...

3100 BC, settler completed. i would suggest this as the next city-site...

3000 BC, end of my turn. settler on its way. notice the blue borders south of the exploring warrior...

here is the savegame.

ok, this is my summary:

4000 BC: The game starts. I wait with the settler and move the worker onto the tile with the furs. I decide to build the city on that furs tile, away from the river to avoid a city-site on flood plains.

3950 BC: Rome is founded and has instant access to furs, this is good for happiness. The city radius opens a hut that gives us a map of the region -> very handy. I start building a warrior and researching bronze working

3900 BC: Building warrior in rome, building road to next city site

3850 BC: Building warrior in rome, building road to next city site

3800 BC: Building warrior in rome, building road to next city site

3750 BC: Building warrior in rome, building road to next city site

3700 BC: warrior completed, I send him on an explore-mission. building road to next city site. rome begins to build a settler

3650 BC: warrior explores, worker builds road

3600 BC: warrior explores, worker builds road

3550 BC: warrior explores, worker moves back to rome to irrigate

3500 BC: warrior discovers a goody hut and 2 tiles of ivory, worker starts to irrigate

3450 BC: the cultural borders of rome expand and the city reaches a size of 2; I’m rethinking the site of our next city and would suggest to build it as shown in the 3100BC screenshot.

3400 BC: our warrior enters the goody hut and we get pottery for free -> nice

3350 BC: nothing

3300 BC: irrigation completed

3250 BC: worker starts building a road to the new city site.

3200 BC: nothing

3150 BC: nothing

3100 BC: our settler is completed. I send him on a goto-route to my suggested city site. Our warrior discovers the next goody hut and blue borders!!

3050 BC: science explosion! We discover bronze working and the goody hut gives us ceremonial burial. I tell our scientists to go for iron working next.

3000 BC: our settler is on the way to found our second city, the warrior is still exploring and our worker is working hard to connect our two cities. I didn’t make contact with the civ that hides behind the blue border, I leave that to the next player… over and out…

ok, some comments: the worker and the settler are now automated, the worker builds a road to the city-site and the settler has a goto-route to the same tile...

regarding the city-site: i think the place is quite good, has access to ivory, has forest and i think we should expand towards the blue borders...maybe we should build a coastal city, too...

so who is next? i wonder what the contact with the blue civ will bring, should we go to war, or should we co-exist peacefully?

Here is what happened during my 20 turns:

3000BC: Examining current game status. I reduced science to 20%. This made iron working go from 35 turns to 39 turns, not very significant, but the income doubled from $1 to $2. This could help us out in the future.

2950BC: The warrior climbed the mountain and was able to spot the Germans. I contacted them and they had nothing. 10 gold and no techs. I gave them 1 gold just for good measure and was off.

2900BC: The worker completed the first section of road. I stopped the goto order and moved him on the wheat tile (which Rome's citizen is working). He is going to start building a road to increase our commerce. The warrior is starting to explore west of Germany.

2850BC: A Japanese warrior appears west of Rome. I contact them and find out that they are doing a little better than Germany. They have 2 tech: The Wheel and Mysticism. Both are nice but they want me to give 2 techs and gold for only one of their techs. I decide that it is probably not worth it to trade at this point. I think it might be better to research ourselves for a while (Chieftan level). Plus, we don't need either of their techs yet. I give 1 gold for good measure and leave.

Meanwhile, Rome completes a warrior and I will have him explore west of Rome. Rome is starting a new settler. I switch science to 70% which makes our income go from $3 to $1, but iron working jumps down from 36 turns to 23 turns.

2800BC: Settler reaches Lemming's proposed city site. I like the site but I am moving the settler one tile SE since we will get an extra shield building on grassland with no sheild bonus.

2750BC: Veii is founded. I building a warrior. The two warriors are still exploring west of Germany and west of Rome.

2710BC: The road on the wheat tile is completed by Rome. Our commerce increases and iron working justs to 12 turns. This working will now start working on the road to Veii again.

2670BC: Still exploring. Looking for a good city site for our third city.

2630BC: Still exploring.

2590BC: Our warrior found a hut west of Germany. It contained a map - too bad. It looks like the water is just one big lake.

2550BC: Rome produces a settler. Rome is now producing a worker. Our warrior has found the Japanese border.

2510BC: The warrior by Germany is now moving up to explore NE of Rome.

2470BC: Still exploring.

2430BC: I try to contact Germany and Japan once again. Germany still has nothing for us and Japan still wants 2 tech and gold for one tech. No deal.

2390BC: Antium is founded. It is building a warrior.

2350BC: Veii produces a warrior. Now it is building a worker. Rome builds a worker. Now it is building a warrior. The worker is starting on a road to Antium.

2310BC: Warrior SE of Japan finds the coast (hopefully it is the real coast this time).

2270BC: Still exploring.

2230BC: We just learned iron working. Now I am researching Masonry. An iron resource appears right next to Veii. Good city spot Lemming. We now have a warrior fortified in Veii.

2190BC: Our warrior found the east coast.

2150BC: Veii produces a worker. Now it is working on a warrior. I moved the worker on the ivory tile but haven't started the road yet. Rome produces a warrior. Now it is working on barracks. The warrior is fortified in Rome.

So right now we have a warrior exploring the coast south of Japan and another one exploring north east of Rome. Mansonry will be discovered in 7 turns and we have a net income of $1.

We need to get a temple in Veii so the iron deposit will be within the city limits (no point in wasting a worker to build a colony). Veii is currently producing a warrior and I was planning to switch to a temple after that. I'll leave it up to the next player whether they want to forget about the extra warrior and just switch to the temple right now. Might not be a bad idea.

We might want to get a few settlers and build some cities next to Japan to cut them off and force them to expand south and east (towards Germany. We can also cut off Germany but they are so far behind us that I wouldn't worry about them too much at this point.

I'm thinking that we can start popping out Legionary units (once we get the iron and a couple more cities) and also some Spearmen for defense. Then, we might want to consider taking out Japan and then Germany. Since this is Chieftan level, we don't really need the neighbors to keep up with tech research.

Anyway, that's all up to the next player. I look forward to picking up the game again around 500BC. I'm booked solid until 1000BC but my calendar frees up after that.

looks nice :)

the iron at Veii is essential, if we can build legions soon, the japanese and the germans dont have a chance :D

the area west of antium looks like a good city site with the cow, river and the wheat...maybe we can even grab the iron near the german borders, would be not only a great city site with the cow, but also a good strategic position for launching attacks with our mighty legions :D

so i suppose its your turn, slave :) kick some ass :D

btw, i have uploaded a screenshot of our 2150BC-world here.

I just want to let you know that tomorrow I will not be able to play. If you two play your turns tonight or tomorrow, I will not be able to take my turn until Thursday late morning / early afternoon (eastern time).
