I could not find any documentation on what ports are required to be open on a router to play MP Civ4 in Direct IP mode. I did find a page for Civ3/Gamespy. Does anyone know if the settings are the same?

The ini file has the following entry:

; NetComm Port
Port = 2056

Guessing port 2056

That NetComm port was the correct port entry for me to be able to host a multiplayer game. As soon as I forwarded that port on my router, my friend was able to join my game right away whereas he just timed out before.

The documentation is a bit non-existant for router settings....

Sweet! Did you forward TCP and UDP or just TCP or just UDP?

Well written code for direct IP gaming CAN use just one port. But it begs the question--do you have the port range 2300-2400 open for other DirectPlay games? Any other ports you suspect might be being used? I dont have anyone to test with. :(

I have almost all my ports locked down so it seems they made it better for ports compared to Civ3 where i had to open up a bunch of different ports.

I forwarded both ports for now, havent really experimented with closing the UDP port yet, but I probably won't bother cause its only one port.
