Not sure if this is actually a tech support query or not, but..... I have a question Im afraid I already know the answer to. Bought Civ V, did the whole install/steam thing....ran into several problems (many mentioned in one form or another on these boards..) and finally came across a thread where someone mentioned--what was it?-- canyourunit.com, or some such thing. Tried THAT, and presto, my machine is woefully underpowered. Long story short (I know, too late--sorry), Ive about given up on Civ V
The Quesion I know the Answer to, therefore, is: Can I giveaway my copy of the game, lock, stock, and barrel to a friend whom I know has the perfect machine for this? Im thinking no due to Steam and the authentication code--he'd be registering "my" game. Would this be correct? Thanks, and sorry again for possibly being in the wrong spot.

If you did not already install it on your steam account, then you can give it away, that is not a problem.
If you already installed it, you can gift it to your friend via steam.

Nope, Steam only allows gifting of games already registered in very specific cases. (ie. Valve allowed gifting of HL2 if buyers of The Orange Box already had HL2 on their account)

Really? How does gifting via steam then work?
I thought most of the people here talked pre-release about letting an american friend gift the version to them to be able to play earlier.

When you purchase the game, you select if it's for your own account or as a gift - you can't gift a game after it's tied to your account.

Stardock has GOO, a DRM system which does allow ownership transfer. (I'm not sure what if any games actually use it at this point.)
