Running on laptop without cdrom

Hi,

I did not buy my Civilization complete edition pack YET, but before I do i would like to know if there will be issues running the game on a laptop without a cd-rom drive?

I know there will be no-cd hacks out there, but would not like to go that way.

I there a site where you can buy a downloadable version like other games, which installs some kind of copy protection not requiring a cd-rom?

The US version of complete (that includes Colonization) is completely DRM free and does not need a disc in the drive to play. European versions of Complete (without Colonization) unfortunately include the copy protection still and need the disc apart from BTS if you patch it to 3.19.

There are several places that sell download versions that do not need discs in the drive. Direct to Drive, Gamestop and Steam spring to mind but these are only from memory from what I have read here, I haven't personally looked as I have the seperate disc versions.
