Settings: 600 AD, Regent/normal speed, v1.18 (recent git)
My aim is to complete UHV3 (4 fur and 3 salt) before the Russians spawn in turn 67 blocking access to the east and turning Minsk (and Gleden) to their side. (I will try to do the 3rd UHV after the Russians spawn another day.)
Civics:
Manoralism (50 % faster improvement build), Citizenship (ability to rush military units, cheap Arenas) and Merchant Trade (extra Trade Routes) are set.
Monarchy (extra happiness and faster building of workers and settlers, less maintenance) or Elective (a lot of extra-gold) are both very powerful. Not sure which is better. Both are strong options. Went with Elective in my succesful run.
(Any opinions on this topic?)
Syncretism (no monastery needed, slight culture bonus) is probably better than Clergy (+25 % buildings with Orthodoxy) as you construct only a few buildings and may not have Orthodoxy early.
Hegemony (cheaper Barracks) is better than Thalassocracy (cheaper Voloks - unique Building) as the Voloks seem to be a trap for me. Their trade bonus is too insignificant and you have to grow your cities and will not use merchant specialists.
Starting settlements:
Lubny (one east of Kyiw, for the iron), Minsk (pigs) and Spas-na-Kholmu/"Novgorod" on fur in the north (fur and deer, and starting point on the way to the east and north) .
Important things to do in turn 1:
Advanced start: Build the iron mine and the pastures on the cows for a quick start in Lubyn.
General strategy:
Lubyn builds barracks and then Druzhina (aggressively rushed with gold), then missionaries, Arena (when needed for growth), a settler and more Druzhinas.
Minsk builds barracks and then Druzhina (rushed with gold), a settler, Arena (when needed), and more Druzhinas.
Station Druzhinas on the forested hill east of the iron and destroy barbarians in reach of your improvements to not get plundered.
Only improve ressources and build needed roads. Be careful with your workers! Double guard them when near Horse Archers. You can not lose them as they have a lot do and stop city growth when rebuild. Losing some Druzhina or Archers is not that big of a problem. You have a lot of gold to spent.
Spas-na-Kholmu should build a worker, Arena, more workers when the new settlers arrive.
Found Gleden (2 fur and 2 salt!) as fast as possible and send two workers there to improve fur and salt. Set culture to 100 % to get all ressources in your culture after funding Gleden.
Found Joensuu (fur in Finland) and build a road from the river north of Novgorod to the fur camp. The lake Ladoga will not work as a trade route (a bug?). (Fur east of Gleden or in south Sweden are others options for the 4th fur.)
UHV 1:
Prioritise food in your cities and send missionaries to your starting cities and Gleden to have 30 orthodox citizens.
UHV 2:
A bit luck dependent. Had some games where I got swarmed by barbs and had no problems killing 25. If they seem rare go actively for Kazan or hunting Baltic barbarians, hoping to get 25 to kill. May not work in every game.
UHV 3:
Found and improve Minsk (Salt), Gleden (2 Salt and 2 fur) and Joensuu (fur) before the russians spawn in turn 67. 200 gold through trade just happens while you play.;-)
Enjoy your victory!

Important things to do in turn 1:
- Set the tech slider to 0 % science to get 100% gold for buying military units. We do not need any new tech for the UHV. (If you can, trade for Machinery (Crossbowmen) later.)
- Send one of the Druzhina south to meet the Byzantines and open borders so Orthodoxy can spread to you. (Trade for wine later if possible for extra happiness.)
