Salvaging Wonders?

So I was watching a walk-through on YouTube and noticed the option of "Salvage Wonder" when they clicked on a tile of a wonder that hasn't been completed before another Civ built it. It seemed to boost production on the current wonder they were building as well.

I don't remember it being mentioned before but it seems like a great concept.

It's been already discussed in Screenshot analysis thread, I posted it since I am in love with those two guys :D

I have to re-watch, but I don't think it helped the another wonder (and it definitely did not give them any money). It also took a builder charge to remove it. So it seems that game is punishing you for not finishing the wonder, which is fine imo.

Ahhh ok. Sorry haven't looked at that thread since waking up.

I just thought the great library build looked like it skipped along more when they clicked it but maybe it was just the end of the turn. I'll have to rewatch it.

I don't mind either way, like you, I don't mind if you are punished for not completing a wonder before another Civ.

Well they invested very little into the Wonder... I could see the recovered production not being noticeable.

The mechanism might also allow you to recover some resources if you started building a wonder but then decided to give up on it before someone else built it. But that doesn't seem to have much strategic value and it is unlikely that 1:1 hammers will be returned.

Or they might get rid of it completely during balancing. The Civ 5 getting gold automatically if you get beat to a wonder is much easier for players gameplay-wise than having to dismantle incomplete wonders. We'll have to see what else gets revealed about the salvage mechanic.

Sigh, I miss the days of pre-building wonders. Got my hopes up there for a minute.

It LOOKS like the Great Library has gone BACKWARDS after Stonehenge was Salvaged... So maybe, and this is pure speculation, you gain the tile where the original wonder was but you lose production from the building/unit you are currently building??

Nah, the Build timer in Paris doesn't change it stays 12 turns and drops to 11 after end turn. When you consider they only had 1 turns production when they lost the Stonehenge(possibly none, depending whether the production is added at the end of turn or beginning of the next one, IDK personally) and that 1 turns Production is < the current 1 turn production, maybe they did receive some hammers. I highly doubt that anything a builder does adds production cost to the city.

Hey anyone else notice the Alhambra Wonder Tooltip in the video. + 1 Military Policy Slot or Germany's Unique Bonus in other words, albeit less powerful due to appearing later. However, Germany plus Alhambra + Facism = ALL of the Military Bonuses :)

Looks like a partially-implemented mechanic to me. All Salvage Wonder seems to do right now is clear the tile and use a worker charge, but it seems to me that it should probably do more than that.

If it world give you 25-50% of the production you spent on the failed wondering it would actually be a interesting mechanic. It would be a catch up on the wonder race for civs that narrowly misses a wonder. This can be used to boost a new one instead.
