I think that after learning the Satellites tech, spy missions should include doing recon missions anywhere on the map.

But before this, as someone else has mentioned elsewhere, a spy plane should be introduced to the game. Something like a Blackbird spy plane that has stealth technology and can perform only recon missions anywhere on the map. The spy plane can be available after Stealth but made obsolete when Satellites is learned. A non-stealth spy plane can be introduce earlier in the game too, like the U2, that can do recon missions anywhere on the map but would have a good possibility of getting shot down.

Having stealth technology would still give the Blackbird unit a very small chance of being intercepted, while satellite reconnaissance would have a less chance of success than spy plane reconnaissance but would have no risk to loss of unit life or cause any grounds for having war declared on that civ.

AFAIK, there is no way to intercept a reconaissance mission

This would be a very short lived unit.

Seems that way. Tried using it while playtesting. Wanted to trigger an interception to see if a fighter w/improved defenses had a better chance of destroying an interceptor.

Would be nice if the game tracked the flight path a mission ran, giving chances for air defenses along the flight path to intercept the craft. Add a little more complexity like waypoints, and it could get interesting. All they'd need next are mobile/fixed AAA/SAM units so you could give a nice illustration of what it was like for 8th Air Force to got to Berlin during a daylight bombing mission.

Yes spy planes sound a good idea, i would like it if advisors could tell you details like "we have heard reports that Germany is preparing an invasion of our country" etc... It would also be good if nukes could be destroyed by precision strikes from bombers. May also be good if you could declare war on a nation without a reputation hit because a country is developing WMDs using spies to locate the weapons and the UN etc to persuad other nations. It would be good if in Conquests all civilizations work together to create a world free of nuclear weapons- or would this be to difficult and time consuming to implement?

I like this idea, but only with precision strike, not regular bombing runs. Adds a new dimension to nuclear defense if you don't have any Aluminum (No aluminum, no SAM site, no SAM Sites, No SDI Defense)

yeah but what do you think of the idea of going to the UN to get permission to declare war to stop the proliferation of WMDs so you don't take a rep hit. Taking them out with special aircraft using precision strikes is an excellent idea and wouldn't be hard to introduce. Nuclear weapons in Civ 3 were appalling to be totally honest and it needs to be made more complex- improving defence sounds good as would having to have a launcher to set them off. In real life you don't just need the bomb you need to launch them! This wasn't given sufficient consideration in Civ 3
