save game crash

Hello everybody,

I'm having a 2nd game at prince level of difficulty, and i was beginning to feel good tin the game, arrived 1st and doing some wars, and all really interesting, but the savegame isn't loading anymore!!
no errors, i just hear a sound from the game, and it comes back to windows...

i replay from an older savegame still working, play 2 hours, and at a momment, i click on pacal II to racket him one more time, and i got an error of the game
cannot allocate graphic memory (something like that)
the problem is i have that savegame problem still...

look like i've pushed the game to memories limits...

i changed settigns of game, with pooooorr graphics, and it still crash back to desktop, without an error!!!

can someone explain it to me??
can someone load my game, and see if works??

Today i got an idea
made an empty bat 1.1 directory, and load my save game that way...
so no errors saying the savegame needs a mod

and that way, i don't load any extra 3D model nor texture that goes with...
hope i would save memory so..
but, still that crash back to desktop... :mad:

I just did the same thing, and it crashes for me as well. I don't know what happened to the save, but it doesn't seem to be BAT-related. Are you running any other mods like the Unofficial Patch or Better AI?
 
hmmm, i have the Nasa Blue Marble gold pack (the alst one as far i know)
(but, not really a mod, as it's ALWAYS loaded...)
and i run Bat mod 1.1 without modifications


the first time i got that error, i found 2 saves not loading, and an older one loading, juut few turns before...
i felt that i would have the problem again, if re-play thoses few turns...
and it does... :confused:
look like something happened in my world, that cause the savegame an error!!
possible?

i could play again, that last "working save" and save after each turn, and see on wich turn that savegame occurs...

by your side you can confirm that using bat mod and all the many graphics on a larger than normal map, with 18 civilizations (i killed one early :D) so 17, doesn't push the game to it's "memory limits"??
(i nearly answerd alone, with my test of "blank bat mod 1.1" still crashin)

I have Dual core E6750 with 2Go DDR-Ram (few programs running on systray) and a 8800GTS 768Mo...

but i feel the problem is no hardware...
if someone with a "monster" (vista 8gb ram with 2/4 cores or whatever i can't even imagine!!:crazyeye:) could try for me

I created an empty BAT folder to test your saved game to eliminate BAT's graphics as the problem, and it crashed. I didn't bother testing it with BAT as that seemed pointless.

If you have the time, it would be very helpful if you could play each turn, save the game, and test if the new save loads. If it does, play the next turn, and so on, until it fails to load. Then send me the last save that loads and tell me what to do on that turn. I'll try it out here to see if there's something in particular about that turn that causes the problem.

Of course, it could be that something in the saved game was done many turns ago that set it up so it will break on that turn no matter what you do, but we can at least give it a shot. :)

so i take the first one, play again, and make a save each turn, until i arrive 1813...
and the NEW saves are still loading :confused:
(or maybe i played diferently... but, i don't think!!)

means the problem is (probably) not due to something FIXED, but something uncertain

so i can forgot all i did untill 1826 (big conquest, so many trades, that i'm not sure to do that best again!! and i won't probably have that event giving me +1 happyness in each city for so few like 100 gold!!! :confused: lost foreveerr!!
means probably too, that i'll have to play again doing some saves each turns
and quit/reload the game to make sure my saves are WORKING !!
or i could loose many turns of gaming again!!


so borring...

You can at least let the autosave feature work for you. Modify your CivilizationIV.ini file to create autosaves every turn and to keep 1000000 or so saves. :)
 
Hi again!!

I begin to play again, and i made an exchange with another civilization of his map...
so i receive the full map world.
(i was missing the inside view of some continents.. and pole seas

so it add like 30-40% of tiles visibles
and the game freeze a little when it all appear in one time...
so i get en idea to save, and reload, and then it crash like before


i'm sure it's this, because i loaded the game, made the tech/map exchange ONLY !!

so... WHY ??

would i have the same problem when i'll have all the worl conuquired!!???

There was an art bug in the Wolfshanze (I guess there still is) mod, discovered in a WolfRevolution game, with the exact same symptoms. The issue was eventually traced back to a bogus reference in the CityLSystem.xml file, read Native_America.nif, when the actual file was Native_American.nif Adding the n fixed it (too bad Wolf isn't around any more to fix this in the base mod). A seriously strange part of this bug was that if I used debugging and pressed ctrl + z to reveal the map, it would crash, yet if I would enter world builder and then exit world builder and press ctrl + z everything was fine. Also many games have been played useing Wolfshanze with Native Americans, and very few are effected by this bug, it took 3 or so months of having WolfRevolution up before I recieved a report that led me to track this down, which I find even stranger, considering most art bugs will cause an instant crash.

Based on what is being described, I'd wager a donut this crash is caused by some typo in the CityLSystem or CityPSystem file.
 
I believe so. I'm not entirely sure where wolf picked up his city art, but it's safe to assume it's from Varietas Delectat, or Ethnic City Styles, at least Varietas rings a bell, and that sounds right to me...
 
zut!!

i tried again today, before posting
took my last save in 1882 (so i played a lto again, without crash that tim!!)

i exchange maps with sitting Bull, as last time, i make a save
quit/relaod that last save after map exchange and that time it works!! :confused:

i'd rather liked it buged again...
icuz, now, it show that the bug is still not explained and can happen for i don't know wich reason!!
and i might have been lucky to avoid it untill now...

will pray until i win that game!!!
