Scanning magazine without cutting off the binding.

OK so I got my magazine today. Obviously I dont want to tear it apart. However when I try to scan it the edges whhere the binding is come out blurry. How do I get it not-blurry?

EDIT: Though I might consider removing the binding if theres a way to re-bind it.

Ill give the "scanning a bound magazine" thing a try when I get home
 
Just put enough weight on the binding so that the image is flat to the scanner at the seam.
 
I did that. I used one of my textbooks. This is the result (I resized it). Look OK?
 
Fine. You may want to make your scans larger if you want to read the articles on the screen. And you can trim off the extra parts.
 
Yeah, the original is actually something like 5x larger, I just shrunk it down to upload here. :p
