Scarce resources

It is my large map monarch game with the Inca. I am on an isolated island while the other circa 6 nations are in pairs. Luckily I managed to get the lighthouse, visited them and I am at pair with them in tech maybe even few tech forward. I have a pretty well built up island many wonders, including Copernicus and Newton both in the capital. However my only resource is horses. No iron, saltpeter, coal or rubber. I will be getting coal from a close island hopefully soon.

Do you think it can be won?

I really hope that at least oil I will have... but rubber and iron is a must... and I do not really have the military means to get it...

With oil I can protect the island and maybe survive to a cultural or spacerace win...

But without oil... grrr

Without seeing the map, I would suppose it can be won. If you have a small tech lead, then trade tech for resources, turn resources into military, and then capture the resources and territory you need to win the game. If you have coal, it should be in the bag.

Look for small islands with resources that can possibly be overtaken.

There is nothing wrong with going to war for more resources.
