Everytime I try to play one of the scenarios on Beyond the Sword, the game always shuts down and give me an error message saying

"You can not run multiple instances of this application at the same time"

can anybody help me fix this?

I may not be in the right place, but this forum is the closest I've found so far that matches my problem, so here goes. My problem is similar to thebluesman except that I can play the game included BTS scenarios and mods, but NOT the mods I download from this site. I have Civ IV, Warlords and BTS all installed with all the latest patches and upgrades aquired from this site. While I don't have a gamer specific PC, I haven't had any troubles in the past playing mods from this site for Civ III. I have read and re-read the "Customizing Civilization IV" document from this site and can practically recite word for word the Downloading Files and Installing Mods sections, and still have negative results with each new try. If I weren't bald, I would be by now!

Please...any help you can give will be so greatly appreciated I will seriously consider renaming my first born after you...

i also have somewhat the same problem with the mods, i am able to play the mods for maybe ten minutes then it shuts down and an error message pops up saying something about video memory not being found and to try and reduce graphic settings, this problem has also spread to normal single player, and has also begun occuring in warlords, colonization, and the original civ 4

Thanx for ur reply @all. 1) The error msg said that the game BTS had stopped working, but gave no reason for the crash; 2) I've tried World War II in the Pacific for BTS, Battler of Britain v.05, the ww2mod containing 6 WWII scenarios, WW2 maxriga mod (52.1KB) and Lokolus' Earth 1862 AD (the first 3 being the more important and interesting for me to play; 3) My computer is using Windows Vista 64 bit OS.

Thanx for ur interest and help....

Thanx for the wescome back. Yes, I have been gone for a while, but I'm retired now and trying to find things to do with all this extra time I have, since I'm too old to chase women anymore. :-(

OK. The mods crash the game less than a minute after I click on "launch". Granted that Battle of Britain and WWII Pacific are for BTS 3.13, but I was really hoping they would work anyway, since their subject matter appeals to me most. The others don't seem to be for any specific patch. And to be honest with u, I don't know if the game is running with admin rights or not, and I have no idea how to make it do so if need be.

Looking forward to hearing from u again soon....

if the mod crashes during startup - its because its not compatible with the patch version.
If it crashes later there still might be incompatibilities, but it might as well be due to other problems.
Right click on the shortcut you use to start the game and choose run as admin. Does that help at all?

I am having the same problem as the Bluesman. I am running windows 7, I am running the Beyond the sword expansion, which runs great unless I try to run a mod. I run the game as an admin, whenever I try to load a mod, I get the same error message, and I am talking about the mods that came with the game, so it shouldn't be a conflict issue. I have also checked to make sure that there are no updates for the game.

This happens everytime I try to load a mod, or play a secenario.

OK, I set the game to run as admin, and it did not help, so I guess I'm just outta luck with those 2 mods I really wanted to play. Oh well, I have chosen about 17 others that I have some interest in, so I suppose I'm bound to have better luck with some of them (I HOPE!!!).

Anyway, thanx for all ur help.

BTW, do u know of any other sites that have mods and scenarios for the Civ IV family of games? Take care....

I am still trying to get the question answered. Is there anyone who has any idea how to help. I would really like to play some of the Mod or Secenarios.
