Whats the big deal about scenarios anyway? i dont like them that much cuz i just like to start anew and build up

Playing on maps with special challenges is fine, as long as I do not have any knowledge of the lay of the land or where the resorces are.

Justin823: I am with you and do not understand the huge desire for secenarios. I know that people want them so that they can re-play history (ie: WWII scenario) but I do not think that CIV III is the correct platform for those types of games, but that is just my opinion.

You scenario people out there, no need to try to convince me that I am wrong. You have your opinion, I have mine and both of us are right. I like my CIV the way it is.

sealman: when i get back from holiday I will post a few maps with a link to a minimap - if you do not click that.......

I was thinking of extreme archipelago, desert world and so on :D

I like scenarios for a plethra of reasons. Not only to re-play history, but to learn a bit about history. As long as the scenario is written well, I have learned a lot about history from different scenarios. In the Civ2 Red Front scenario I really learned what scorched earth policy meant.
Also, my wife's favorite Civ 2 scenario is the genetics one where you get to direct evolution. She learned enough to where she wanted to learn more and now works in the health-care profession.
Also, they are fun as they add a little demension of fun if/when you get bored with the regular game (ie beating it on Diety with all civs and no there is not much more of a challenge.)

sealman: :D who posted the 'fix the map generator'-thread??? ;)

a real one, on a map far over normal size, so you need to luck out three times with a 6-move suicide Galley to get off your island group :D

Lt. does that mean when i meet the AI civs in your scenario they will not have contact with each other and will not all be in the industrial age while i creak along in the middle meidevil age?

joycem10: if you get to Navigation as fast as they do - yes! If not they may be far into the Modern Age when you meet them.... :D

am already making the map.... but I'm a geologist, so I have to do everything very real-world like, so it will take some until it both looks realistic and is playable....

sealman: that goes back to Falcon 4.0 days  got my nick there (bestowed, not choosen) and the avatar ;D

a peek at the map: 90% water :D

I like scenarios. It's fun to play Civ with a different twist. I think Civ is a fun place to "relive" history. When I played Civ II a lot, I tried to make a "Red Dawn" scenario. You know, like the movie with Patrick Swayze. :D I wasn't very good at making them yet, so it wasn't very good.

Scenarios are both fun to play and to make.
