Science Question

you should get the "Rise and Rule" mod for Conquests and youll get hundreds of new techs that make the game last forever. Its been 10 hours of constant playing and we're not in the industrial age yet. this game is gonna last forever. Though i do already have an army that can challenge the gods and am taking out the 20 opponents already.

I get the trading/extorting for techs, but explain how you would steal one...That sounds interesting  :nya:

With diplomacy or espionage. You need an embassy or a spy. It's a risky business, if you're caught the civ may declare war on you.

Of course. I forgot because I've never actually needed to use that. please excuse my idiocy.

Crusader999, Your idiocracy is excused. :crazyeye: Just excuse mine to boot, eh?

To try an espionage mission, you need to right-click on the city with the Intelligence Agency and chose conduct espionage.
:goodjob:

On chieftain the tech race is awfully slow. AI's are so crippled that they need bloody ages to advance in tech, so you cannot benefit on trading / stealing / extorting.
On deity, they can build libraries & universities dirt cheap, and they also trade very aggressively each other. You can hit the industrial age before 1000 A.D.

Try warlord or regent and you'll see a more realistic tech advance. And if you lose, don't give up. It's the difficulty that force you to become a better player. If there's no challenge, there's no nedd to improve. Stick on chieftain and you'll always be a rookie.
Ah, you just answered a question for me as well. I just tried Warlord for the first time last night. I couldn't do much with researching my own techs, due to fighting all the wars declared on me (not sure why either), but during peace, the other civs had little to trade but Music Theory. I never came close to getting any Great Wonders. :(

I've read most of the articles in the Military Academy, and I've learned a LOT, but I'm having trouble applying them. I guess spending 6 weeks at Chieftain level wasn't the best way to learn, huh? I'd gotten so I could consistantly win a cultural victory in Chieftain.

Hey gmaharriet, myself being a stuborn jack... I get usually most civs at war with me for the first part of the game, and I play on Emperor. I usually just build my deffense and let them randomly attack. Once I discover the secrets of Republic, well then I try to change the world. When they talk about destruction, they can count me out, because it's gonna be alright. Well cause you know, it's gonna be alright, we change the constitution. They fight the institution, but I tell them to change their minds instead.

It'll be alright. :king: :band:

Seriously, build up a deffensive army, that can prove valuable ;)

Thanks Admiral! That's encouraging. :)

Crusader, from your posts I presume that you play almost all the time in chieftain and win almost all the time. The first steps to improve is to forget about chieftain and go for harder levels.
